REM while in a trance

Today I was meditating and about a half-hour in when I was ina trance, my eyes started flicking around quickly in various directions and I couldn't control it, so I just let it go.  I think my body was asleep and whent into REM(rapid eye movement).  Has anyone else experienced this?[]
