What exactly is this Karma: 0 rating we all have?
It is a nice idea, but the system is flawed. Anybody can create other accounts and give themselves positive karma.
As I see certain individuals have done...
But hey, whatever.
LOL! I totally agree.. that or their friends can have a hayday..
Does it have any effect or is it just to enhance interaction?
-Awakened_Mind
It has no effect - it's simply a bit of fun. Although it would be funny if a member gets -20 karma points, they get an automatic ban!! :-D
I guess some will take it seriously, but that's their prerogative.
Personally, I use it conservatively - if I like what someone has said and it has perhaps made me think, then I might applaud them.
The good thing about it is that it is totally anonymous - the moderators are not privy who gives what to whom - which I think is fair and right.
Of course Adrian the administrator knows everything - but then he's allowed to!! 8-)
Sarah
It would have been more effective if it was limited in some way. Eg. You can only vote for the same person once a week or something like that.
RunLola, it might have looked that way, but I was not refering to you. I was refering to those who would go from -9 karma to +6 karma in a span of like two days...
LOL! well then you were talking about her, it only took a couple days for her to get to fifty..
I'm back under again..LOL.. I ticked someone off....and their friends. :-D
... yeah. Funny that. One would think "spiritually awakened/open minded" folks would care a little LESS about what others may think of them.
The system would off course not work at all, if one could give oneself karma points. Can you imagine? :-D "I think what I just wrote was totally awesome, and therefor I deserve 3 karma points for my amazing insight! Click. Click. Click.
Cheers for the info :-)
You can't vote for yourself...dang it.
I want to make myself clear so lola, you don't think I'm.."picking" on you. :-P I mearly found/find it curious that you have way more karma than anyone, even Adrian..LOL.. Now, no offense but I can't really see why your Karma points got so high over a couple days. (yes, I know it happened months ago when the issue of you and me came up for the millionith time) And if you or anyone else hasn't noticed, it's gone up even more since this topic. That was my issue...because of the obvious mis-use of the system. I mean really you have some good advice, but lets look at your advice as a whole, which most consist of media links and on the old PSD forum. I know you had some friends that you made in that forum and yeppers, I made enemies..lol. Ah well.
Just needed to straighten that up. And please don't come back yelling and stomping around, I have not said this to upset or hurt your feelings but mearly express mine. I think it's pretty obvious at this point, where you're getting your points. :-D
You're absolutely right lola. :-D
lol guys u caught me, i applaud runlola
and id do it agian lol, dont push me im crazy haha
maybe its because RunLola has interesting and thought provoking posts
-you should try to be more like her TalaNay
-Thoughts
There are definitely people who I believe deserve more karma (Job & James S), and some who deserve less, but remember, not everyone's opinion is the same. At all. :)
I'm just glad karma on here doesn't actually affect anything, or there would be TOTAL CHAOS. :P
Actually, this karma thing is starting to make me a little angry.. And others..
It creates tension and prevents people from being honest, they're afraid of being 'smited'. I think honest people should be applauded.
I just got smited for saying my opinion against someone who said there's evil aliens everywhere.
I was even joking when I replied.
Grr?
I think it should be removed.
I think Karma ratings are stupid, so I'm going to smite everyone. Please, smite me back. It doesn't do anything, right?

Lol, +1 karma for you. :)
-1 for you!!!!!!!!!
I think I'm going to give EqualThoughts 1,000 Karma.
Oh, you have to wait one hour. I see now...

-1 for you!!!!!!!!!
Great, I've lost two for no reason in the last half hour. :)
Ugh, can anyone help me out? :P
Jeez, I will bring it back up [in an hour].
sweeeet 1000!!!!
allright!!!!!awsome!!!!
ill be like a level 9 wizard sage at least with that much karma lol
:-o
LOL! I'm still ping-ponging. My goal is 666....
hey guys, smite me....smite me because with me u will have an hard fight on smiting a certain moderator here....and you knwo who i am talking about if you are reading this...be careful
You mean Nay ?
- Nay is the one with the lowest score and...
You wrote recently :
Quotethank you Nay!! you are very sweet indeed and one of my favourite person in this forum!
Well people be warned if you're trying to smite Nay. Her score will keep bumping up again.
Hi! Nice system this one!
btw why cant i use the system?
Flannery is taht sarcasm? what wrong with me liking Nay?
I like Nay too. She's so funny.
ok sorry....i just dont undersdtand this kind of "secret war" against her.
lets change topic
can u answer to Shield question?
If there's a war and it's secret, how do you know... ?
Quotecan u answer to Shield question?
Maybe because you need a minimum amount of posts under your belt...? dunno.
i dont know about wars lol...just think thats strange about the negative karma she has.
thats all
Ooooh I see.
Many people have zero karma or very little. It doesn't say much about the person.
Yeah.
Look, lets come back on topic :)
flannery your false kindness toward me is......eh... and so is your false naivity...*shrugs*
Kaz, please don't worry yourself. Some people are misusing it, that's all. I'm just getting the negative misuse of it while others get the positive misuse of it. I thought it would stop by now but some people have no life..so..don't worry about me. :-D I would like to think that even though Flannery thinks that people with low karma points aren't worth much the other people who come here often enough have more common sense to know better. :-)
What is that all about ?
Ok Nay, i will not touch again on that topic.
Its better i think.
Anyway, karma points are not that important. My reason for my intrusion on this problem is due to the fact that i dont understand the "rage" against Nay with this stupid game of smiting her on karma. I know thats not important but i was wondering why they attack her so much. Since i can remem :wink:ber she is such a good person! A big kiss for you Nay! :)
Awww.. thanks Kaz.. much appreciated. :-)
Hi,
I'm still trying to figure out, how do you "applaud" and "smite" people?
Thanks,
Sarah
Probably you must reach a minimum number of posts before that.

You have to be logged in, but aren't you already, Jimi?
You have to be a member for 24 hours or more.
hehe.. thanks Woah. :) he or she which ever one they are going by has only a few hours to wait...but I'm thinking they already knew.. (http://clicksmilies.com/s0105/aktion/action-smiley-010.gif)
Hmm, I'm logged in now and I've been a member for a few days. Sorry for the confusion, I'm still new at all of this! Very perceptive of you realizing I use the same computer as Jimi. He is my husband and got me into the Astral Pulse forum. :-D Nice to meet you all.
I still can't figure out the astral and karma rating system. ha ha Maybe I need to post more?
Sarah
You actually joined yesterday, by tomorrow you should be able to applaud or smite someone. The "buttons" will show up under our names. It wasn't me being perceptive.. I'm anal and check out everything! LOL.. A big welcome to you and the hubby, look forward to hearing more from both of you! (http://clicksmilies.com/s0105/aktion/action-smiley-023.gif)
I've applauded you. :) you're off to a great start!
Oh yaay - thank you! I'm having fun looking around and trying to get the hang of things. Your kindness and patience is much appreciated. I'd applaud you if I could!
Sarah
oh yay lets applaud eachother
losers
but i am a member for more than 1 day....the only solution that i see is that one must be a member at least after being logged in for more than 24hours. And thatsdifferent from being a member at 24hours
I'm not sure about the whole karma thing and how it works, it a fairly new thing. I think it is a good thing that people can't just come on here and smite away.. I hope it is how you say, Shield. I have noticed that I got smitted since my last post..lol. Ah...my fans again. :)
ET..not very nice..even with the wink...I wish people would refrain from calling names. No, let me rephrase that.... refrain from calling names or you will find yourself on a few day ban. Hope that's clear enough.

someone has to hit [applaud] and you get a point
if someone hits [smite] you lose a point.
Looks like I have to retaliating to do.
why do u have so much negative points?
Shhhhhhhh...it's the perverbial elephant in the room... I can't believe it happened again when you came online Kaz... I'm down to five now.... someone is framing you!! :-o :-P
WHAAAAT whaaaaa :-o

Ack. There's been times when I've read several great posts by a person within minutes, and I thought having to wait one hour was bad.
And.. why's this in introductions?
Hah TalaNay, no need to complain now. You've jumped to 57 overnight. :P :|
Wow, that was incredible! The last time I looked, Nay was at 11, and I come on today, and she's at 57! :-) I was quite surprised.
But TalaNay seems like a very nice person to me, so the more karma the better, I suppose.
Sorry about that.. someone was having a bit of a lark. You all are welcome to smite me back to whatever level you think is correct. I kinda like it though... ;)
I don't intend to smite anybody. Applauding just seems so much...nicer...for me.
Before I posted this message, I saw my post count (which was 89 then) and for a second, I thought I was looking at my karma rating. I thought, "Wow, who's done all that?" Then I realised it was my post count.
HAHA Skippy, I liked that one...made me laugh. As for me, I'm staying at 0!!! for karma, hmm might be hard. Thats my goal anyway.

Hello Nodes,
I believe you have made some relevant points regarding the karma system.
Let me say that Talanay's karma score was not a result of requesting it from me or anyone else. I do not approve of the way the karma system appears to have been mis-used and I intend to rectify it.
I would just like to say that karma, while being a member service which some might find amusing, it is nevertheless intended to be taken seriously. It is no longer possible for anyone to mis-use it.
To all those who have taken the karma system seriously, and indeed respected the rules and ethos of the forum generally; which I believe is the majority, I thank you very much for that and for your valued contributions.
Best regards,
Adrian.
Adrian is correct when he says I did not request this in any way shape or form. With that said I would like to ask you Nodes, to decline from trying to make me look bad to the members of this forum at any further dates. I will not get into a bashing fest with you regarding my character.
The members can read for themselves and figure out for themselves wether or not I'm irritating. I do want to add that it is very un-healthy and un-spiritual for anyone to hold on to anger and grudges for so long.
Have a great day and smile, it's good for you. :-D
Nay, you've put me in mind of the song Put On a Happy Face. :-)

To smite is too violent. It makes me think of the hand of God.
Booing is better, and more or less the opposite of applauding someone, but I suppose that would result in lower karma ratings all round.

I agree that "smite" is somewhat aggressive but it is the default for the system.
What other words might we use; and that is for anyone to suggest?
Best regards,
Adrian.
The word smite is used jocularly, so I had this picture in my head of a Simpsons-style large white-sleeved hand reaching down from heaven and giving someone a good flick with a finger. I should probably rephrase. It's a bit violent, but I didn't meant "too violent" in a Quentin Tarantino way.
Still, to smite is a bit harsh. :)
I cannot give you any ideas Adrian, because my english is too limited.
Maybe "booo" is a nice idea, like Leaf says :)
Anyway, i am still to understand why some people thinks thats its nice to smite Nay...
I am 99% sure that such person when facing Nay on real life, would get scared for being in front of a such great woman....not everybody can stand up in front of power, beauty and wisdom.
(dont worry Nay, i am not trying to seduce you lol)
If everyone behaves in a nice, friendly manner, then surely nobody would need to smite anybody?
How did I miss this today? Kaz stop it, I'm blushing. :) I'm not sure if your helping or making things worse.
Skippy: You'd think that, in a perfect world. Sometimes things get heated and things are said. As long it doesn't get personal and names don't start getting yelled out, it's all good. I do really wish this thread would die though. :-P I however can see how I can tick some individuals off, and if it makes them feel better to smite that's ok, as long as it isn't every hour on the hour. Adrian has fixed that problem so, I'm thinking all is good.
I know I'm not perfect and alot of times I speak before thinking, but that's me... you either get me or don't. :-D
I'm not a prolific poster so I like the karma system because it's a way for me to let people know that I appreciate their posts by "applauding" them. Likewise when someone posts something mean or just inappropriate it's cathartic to "smite" them :-D
I am a new member, how much time do i must stay logged in, in order to applaude or smite?
I think someone answered that a page or so back. Geez, I think I'm going to have to ask Adrian for the answer. :)
I thought you could applaud or smite once an hour. In relation to how long you have to stay logged on for, I have no idea.
