Title: Kybalion
Post by: Werp Weg Alles on November 24, 2006, 16:36:48
Hey everyone,  has anyone read this book?  The Kybalion, it's said to be a book of Hermetic principles and I'm pretty sure Adrian got "As below so belove" from it.  Anyway, I downloaded it from http://www.hypnosis-kids.com/free-downloads.htm (http://www.hypnosis-kids.com/free-downloads.htm) Once your on the site, scroll down until you reach Free Books.  I found it very informative even if it does use a little older language.  So, if your not to busy take a while and look through it and reply with what you think.  Also, to those of you who have read this book, what did you think of it?

"As above so below" is part of the phrase. The rest goes "As below, so above". And it isn't from the Kybalion. To my knowledge it first appeared in the Emerald Table of Hermes. You can also find similar concepts in The Golden Versus of Pythagorus.

Enjoy!

Isn't the Kybalion just a book on the teachings of Hermes??  That was my understanding, so thats why it appeared in the Emerald Table of Hermes.  The book was by "The Three Initiates," who were learning about Hermes.

QuoteI'm pretty sure Adrian got "As below so belove" from it.

I was referencing this quote here. My point was that Adrian may have gotten the phrase from this book, but he could have gotten it from a number of other hermetic sources, the oldest to my knowledge being the Emerald Tablet.

Yes the Kybalion is based on the teachings of Hermes and, hence is hermetic. But I think even within hermetics there are different branches. I was throwing out these other texts purely as additional readings if you find hermetics of interest to you.

Sorry if I confused you!

Ahhh, its all coming together lol.  I understand that now, thank you.  And after reading the Kybalion I'll definitely research different branches of hermetic and different hermetic teachings and books as well.  Haha its interesting you said that you were throwing them out there as additional readings, because I did run up a search for the Emerald Tablet and am now looking into that as well. Much thanks.

And the confusion is now gone! :-D

If you are serious about it, another text I would strongly recommend is Paenitere by William Blystone. It is currently out of publication undergoing revision and is expected to be released sometime within the next 6 months.

I found this book much more in-line with my thoughts on the many hermetic texts currently in publication and it does vary quite a bit from the popular resources. I personally prefer the older texts and tend to stay clear of the 'new age' stuff currently on the market -- but that's a personal preference of mine only. You should read and do what resonates with you.

No problem, didn't know it was a fresh one when I posted it

I noticed that as well when the forum link was given to me.

HAHA that MUST be it, AT&T just couldn't handle the truth!!!  :-o

Novice, I'll definitely look into that in the upcoming months, and I'd have to agree with you on the older texts.  The new age ones seem to be more focused on selling the cook and having the publisher make money more than on the old ancient truths, or information.  Thank you for all your help.

The Kybalion is another source for learning Hermetic Magick & Alchemy but I believe that IIH by Franz Bardon is the best . "As Above So Below "is throughout Hermetic Works , I believe it originates with the Emerald Tablet .

So... I'd like to know what do we really have from Hermes.

Have his original teachings (a part of them) arrived to us?

What are their titles?

What do you think that are the best traslations?
(Maybe I should learn Greek, maybe not)

Thanks a lot,

I let you here some found about it, but my search is only started.

I feel that all of esoteric wisdom is from one source and that we can access that through developing our human energy body . I feel that sentient light is our greatest consciousness and that we can build up our light quotient through energy work , projection , meditation and magick .
QuoteHave his original teachings (a part of them) arrived to us?
Yes , I think so .Imho , Hermes Trimestigus , Hermes , Horus and Christ is the magnum magus . I believe in reincarnation of the avatar and in evocation . I believe that the teachings of magick process from ancient times becoming more and more revealed and understood as the consciousness of humanity expands and the light quotient of the average human energy body is increased . Imho the teachers of magick are many but avatars tend to profuse and imho it goes something like this ;
Sumer: Enki , Marduk , Nammu , Ianna etc.
Egypt: Khnomn Ra , Osiris , Horus , Isis etc
India : Krishna the Preserver ;Vedas & Upanishads
Asia : Buddhas esp Buddha
Middle East : Kabbalah , Christ , Mary etc .

Avataric stage waning
------------------------------------------
Mystic stage waxing

Apostolic : Gnosticism Apocryphal Codices
Hellenic : Universities Philosophers Alchemists Mystics
Medieval Alchemists : Boehme ,Newton , Bacon , etc
Kaballahists : esp Isaac Luria
Mystic Magicians : Crowley , Blavatsky , Monroe , Bardon , Bailey
New Age : Bruce , Chia , Stone , Cooper

I feel  that kaballah , alchemy , gnosticism , evocation and hermetic magick are inextricably entwined . Particular to Hermetic teachings ,  I think that Enki , Marduk , Osiris , Horus , Seth , Christ , Hermes , Isaac , Jacques de Molay are Christ Consciousness avatars whose path is enlightenment and education through the expansion of consciousness , and the manipulation of energy .
