In my oppinion laugher is glorification to Life and Good. Only one really free man could laugh honestly and from heart.
When I was reading your quotations I remembered of Umberto Eco's "The name of the rose" - in middle centuries they've been thinking the laugher is something ugly and dangerous, a devil's deal... maybe the chirch just has been afraid of loosing it's power if people feel free enough to laugh at life - it would ruin it's dogmas...[:)]
