Standardize The Words

For real scientific progress to be made in any psychic / nonphysical / astral-related area, we first need to know exactly what people mean when they talk. Definitions of words form in small groups of people. Often, definitions of the same word are inconsistent with each other. To allow things to be figured out more logicly, this thread will attempt to list exactly what each word means and which words it means the same as.

Try to use as few of the words below (those being defined) in the definitions as possible. The more they connect to physical words, the more science will accept them. When you must use those words in the definitions (which is often), try to use them in a clearly defined logical way.

If the definitions are high enough quality and can be made short enough, a small "astral dictionary" could be written.

psi - (you all write in the definitions)
kundalini -
energy -
vibration -
density -
focus level -
chakra -
project -
remote view -
kinesis -
spirit -
soul -
higher self -
mind -
astral sex -
astral -
real time zone -
enlightened -
Note: "god" has been omitted because theres already too many threads on it
Add more words. I'm sure I've left out some...

psi - This seems to be a catchall description of the kind of power involved in telekinesis, pyrokinesis, telepathy and similar. Not sure how it relates to energy work training and astral projection-but there probably is a relationship.

Kundalini - Serpent of Fire energy (metaphoric description of what it will feel like!) Said to be the strongest energy the human body can manifest.

Energy - Catchall description for everything that exists really-matter is energy, light is energy, chi is energy. Usually needs specifying though often used in discussion to mean chi/ki/prana-though that's laziness on my part!

Vibration -  The kinetic movement of a medium. whether it's the skin on a drum, the compression/decompression of air(sound) or the movement of molecules in matter (the property of heat is a result of this. Often used to describe sensations arising from energy training, stages in astral projection and also used a lot in "astral theory", probably because there is a shortage of appropriate language to describe the astral and other existences.
density - The amount of matter in a given volum
focus level - State of mind-alert, relaxed, deeply relaxed, light trance, deep trance and loads of others.

Chakra -Major energy exchange and transoformation  portal/organ of the energy body.

Project - To project your consciousness outside of yourself, to copy your consciousness into your "astral" or other bodies.

Remote view -
Kinesis - Simply means movement. Greek root I believe. e.g Telekinesis (distant movement).

---These are tough, beliefs vary the most on these I think---
Spirit - Used interchangeably often with Soul and higher self. So I will put my PERSONAL view. Though spirit often refers to an astral entity also.
Soul - If you hold your newborn child and look into their eyes for a short time, what do you feel inside you? and inside their eyes?.
Higher self - See above, though you can also add to this the feeling you get after extensive meditation if you feel expanded. Perhaps this is getting in touch with your higher self.
-------------------
Mind - Conscious everyday manifestation of "you"+ the mechanical workings of your brain.

Astral sex - ! Sex with another astral being?

Astral - label applied to a plane of existance where mind influences the environment. Too big a subject for me to try to encompass further.

Real time zone - Layer of the astral plane that mimics the real world.

Enlightened -  Ask easier questions! This one is individual I believe, though there are commonalities enough to allow good advice and discussion to be had.

There that's all I can deal with typing out. It's not brilliant because it's just my own opinions and basic understandings. As such I reserve the right to be wrong, partly wrong and totally barking up the wrong tree(s).

Beavis,
I think you have a good idea. I have a few to add to your list as well.

karnautrahl,
I like your definitions.

More words:

ground

aware

symbol

vision

sound

perceive

aura

conscious

Hmmm...I've never thought of psi as kundalini. Psi always seemed to be a general term for any kind of energy (general energy word), similar to chi.

Logic

Real time zone - the "objective" plane which a relative flow of time is present.

Mind - the source of thought by a person or group irrelevant of consciousness.

Consciouss - activley percieving an internal or external environment.
We are not truly lost, until we lose ourselves.

Note: I will attempt to put my understanding only in the context of healing/ap etc as there are more mundane dictionary terms also for some of these words. I take it as given these are already taken for granted!! :-)

Ground - (adj) to ground, after performing healing/energy work in a trance a procedure used literally to bring yourself back to earth and normal daily life.  Techniques include eating, drinking, walking or quick exercise, elimination. There are energetic techniques also for this.

Alternatively to ground can mean literally to sink your "chi" into the Earth in the practice of qigong/tai chi and other internal arts. Furthermore some forms of healing require you to deliberatly ground yourself before attempting to perform healing.

Finally in some healing techniques to ground may also mean to throw everything you may have picked up from your patient- (negative energy wise), into the Earth to be transformed.

Aware(ness) - I modified this to attempt to explain it the best way I know how.  How conscious are you right now? How many things are you noticing when you walk? Awareness to me seems to be the internal mental action of engaging in the world around you. This can be focussed in many ways.  As one could write a book, indeed some have on this subject I won't attempt to define any further here. Too tired :-).

Symbol-Visual representation of a concept? A calling card for a group/company or spiritual calling. Or look at this writing-it's also a collection of symbols. This has levels of meanings also like most of these words. Examples include the Yin/Yang, I Ching, a flag, a company logo. There are deeper metaphorical ways to express a symbol I'm sure. Such as sound cues in a ritual for example.

Vision-Physical? or mental? or psychic? Vision can mean a visual awareness on a number of levels-including temporal vision (past/future), the ability to see into the astral without projecting.
On a wider level it can mean your own vision-like a leaders vision for his/her people or an inventor's vision for their ideas. In this case they can be described as visionary.

Sound-I've skipped this one as the only thing I can think of here is clairaudience, psychic hearing.  Someone will have a lovely definition for this having experienced it I'm sure.

Perceive-Function of awareness perhaps? The sensing of your environment is perception-it's also a filter as it's not limited to just your physical senses but what your consciousness makes of the data presented. Note that environment is a universal term here. For some it's just the room they are in, for others it's a far greater space including a whole universe.

Aura - The body of light that appears to surround all things. It's dynamic in living beings and is said to be viewable by appropriate perception on the part of a very aware human (did you like the inclusion of prior definitions? LOL). It is also said to be reflective of internal states of a living being including emotional, physical and spiritual states of being.

Conscious - Was answered above though also I liken to that sensation you have of being "you".

I've run out of intellectual ability right now, because I need sleep :-). So good night folks and thanks for the challenge. I hope I answered it in some halfway worthwhile fashion. I still reserve the right to be wrong and stupid at times.

At least 5 definitions per word would be best. Then I'll put all the definitions for each word together in a later post, and we'll try to combine them into something smaller.
