Firstly, I don't pretend to know the answer, I can give you my guess though.
The human spirit seeks expression in all things. Since we are in essence creative, our spirit seeks to express itself in a creative manner, art, literature and drama are all measures of the soul, but music...Music is its song, its voice and it speaks many, many languages.

The entire Universe in all spheres - physical, Astral and Mental -consists of vibration, including colours - many of which are outside the sensory range and comprehension of incarnated humans -and also including musical rhythm or melodies.

Our souls are attracted and respond to these vibrations, and I guess that is why we can get so individually attached to certain music and other harmonious vibrations.

With best regards,

Adrian.

Music is the language of the soul. The ancient Greek philosophers stated that music has the power to affect one's emotions. Music was one of the Four Sciences. It is something that moves us. We are experimenting with music. There were four main eras of classical music- The Boroque era (Bach, Handel, Vivaldi, etc.) which was from 1600-1750, the Classical era (Mozart and Haydn mostly) from 1750-1820/1830, the Romantic era (Chopin, Lizst, Shcumann, schubert, Beethoven, and many others) from 1830-1900, and the 20th Century era (Wagner, Schoenberg, Stravinsky, Ravel, Debussy, and a great many others) 1900-1999. Mozart was a contemporary of George Washington. We are now in a transitional time for music, and we are trying to get away from the tonality and harmony. Doing this will open doorways to other sounds that have the vibrational properties we need. As light is made up of different colors, so too are pitches made of different proportions of overtones (sound vibrations). It's a really hard thing to explain if you're not a music major. Anyway, Adrian is right when he talks about vibrations. The Greeks used to believe that the pitch D caused people to feel happy. (the note in the middle of the 2-black-key groups on the piano. If you look closely the black keys on the piano are grouped into 2's and 3's. D falls between the 2 black keys in the 2's group. Are you confused yet?) So I think the note D must have some sort of vibrational harmony with our auras if it does make people happy. Music is pretty much my life. I am looking forward to writing compositions that explore new regions of human emotion. [:)]

Spirit_Gurl,
Although I dont know why, but a well composed music certainly influence of psyche and our well-being. Don't you like to listen a music that make you feel good within. We, human beings, are attracted to things that make us feel good. However, it is always good to aim for eternal feeling of good. Why are we attracted to things that give us feeling of good? There is a reason for that. Please read the messages I send at forum: *PLEASE READ THIS * NEED YOUR OPINIONS*.

music is to hearing as paintings are to sight and flowers are to your sense of smell. why do we like any of those things?

music is greatly related to human emotion. thats what separates it from noise, it portrays feelings.

as far as rhythm and beat go, i'd honestly have to say you're gay [:)]. i take it you listen to the radio a lot, poppier things? if you want to better understand what we're talking about, check out some classical stuff. here's a few pieces to start you off that deal a lot with emotion:

mussorgsky - pictures at an exhibition - ballet of unhatched chicks
mozart - requiem - confutatis
beethoven - moonlight sonata - movement 1
wagner - flight of the valkyries
aaron copland - appalachian spring

try those out, if you want music

As said before, i think it's all to do with vibrations. Everything in the universe vibrates. There are musical notes for the Astrological signs, the chakras, the planets etc. I'm a guitarist and i've decided to try and use these notes (particularly the chakra notes) to create music that helps me (and maybe others) in a spiritual way. Maybe i can raise energy through music, i'm not sure yet. I wouldn't be surprised if the band Tool already do this.

Music is the easiest and most effective way to relay your message to millions of people.  It is now said that the average attention span of a teenager is about 15 minutes.  So, if you had music going on in the background, or let them listen to their own, their productivity increases.  Wow. I just tied in two sentences together that had COMPLETELY different meanings.
