My understanding is that you can project from a lucid dream.  And as far as the RTZ and astral goes just lower or highten the level of etheric energy you have.  Higher etheric energy outs you in RTZ.  As far as choosing which you go straight to I wouldn't know (haven't projected yet).  I think that's different for everyone.  For one if you do the method where you wait for hypnagogoic images and they become 3D make sure you don't do that for RTZ that makes a gate to the astral double of the image.  But if you do something like ROPE than I suppose that some energy work before you project could help.  Just do the mental hands pulling etheric energy into you and there you go.  That's the best I can do.[|)]

I'm not quite sure if you're saying that lying on your back is the ideal OBE position, or if you're saying that for YOU, in your experience, this is the only position to have an OBE.  So forgitve me if I misunderstand you.

You can have an OBE, AP, or LD in ANY position that you can get confortable in.  Why do I say this?  Because many people feel that if they are not on their back, they cannot have an OBE.  They get frustrated and eventually switch to another position, usually to fall fast asleep.

Here is what I do, because like you, I often find it difficult to fall asleep on my back.

First, start off on your back.  Stay here in this position for as long as you can, continually bringing yourself deeper and deeper into a relaxed state.  Any OBE-techniques that you use should be done here.

Eventually, you may find that you've reached an impass, where you can't get any deeper in this position.  So quite simply, you change positions!  Roll over on your side, or twist your back slightly to be lying partly on your back and partly on your side.

There is no such thing as breaking the OBE spell.  If you meditated and relaxed for 30 minutes on your back and then feel the need to switch positions, you do NOT start all the way back at square one.  Wherever your mindset was before you moved, it will only take a minute or two to get back there.

Often times, I try and get into a pre-OBE state on my back, then I get tired and roll over to sleep.  However, sometime after I lose consciousness, I will snap back to my full awareness and be able to have an OBE.

Hope that answers some questions you may have.

I would like to find out if anyone else has this problem while attempting an obe...

I just can't get relaxed while laying on my back.I do a ton of stretches and progressive relaxation exercises, but I always still feel 'jittery' in my back-it's like it's saying "need to move need to move need to move...!"[:(!].it eventually becomes VERY uncomfortable, and I have to change positions (thus breaking the 'spell').I inevitably end up lying on my side, and just can't achieve an obe in that position.it ALWAYS results in a lucid dream (which is kinda cool, but not what I'm going for).

lying on back=obe

lying on side=lucid dream

I've tried lying on my stomach, but that doesn't really work for me.

another question- does anyone have a way of conchiously choosing whether to go to RTZ,or astral realms?

I used to ALWAYS end up in the RTZ,but now its the astral (when I do achieve an obe-maybe once a year! probably because of the back issue[:(]).I can't seem to control this!
