It's been over 10 years since I started my journey online going from forum to forum... and I've used the nick "Xanth" ever since.
I've grown so much in the last year or two now that I feel that I'm ready to move on from it.
So with that said, I've decided to retire my "Xanth" nick.
Since some people would inevitably ask, I thought I'd make a quick post about it.
Hi, I'm Ryan. :)
Hello again, Xa... I mean Ryan :-D
I was even thinking "hmmm since when a new mod called Ryan?" then I thought it may be you and saw this thread. It'll be hard to call you Ryan since I am so used to Xanth and I really liked your nick for some reason.
LoL call me whatever you feel most comfortable calling me as long as it's within the rules. ;)
What about
Jemima
:NoY:
Wouldn't it be easier if you just had everyone in real life start calling you Xanth?

"Hey mom! I'm changing my name to Xanth... so call me that from now on!" :D
I'm fairly certain my mother wouldn't be able to pronounce it. LOL
I had a friend in high school named Eric and when I saw him years later everyone called him Boz. I said "you'll always be Eric to me", and when people hear me call him that they look at me funny, like I'm the weird one.

Does the user name format give us the anonymity, and by extension, the courage to say things we would not attribute to to ourselves? Does it embolden us? Would we say the same things in the same way if we were face to face? Do I ever quit asking questions?

I perpetually run my mouth, much worse than i do here, when i am face to face. my lady says i lack tact. i say, i'm not afraid of my present understandings.
For most though, yes, I believe it provides a sense of anonymity and thus courage to say more.
for me, i think it gives me an opportunity to think through what i want to say more thoroughly and thus usually in a more succinct and restrained manner.
