I'm jealous. Still cold all of the time.
Have you taken your temperature in addition to the room's temperature? If not, please do.
There are several sets of exercises for balancing your energy, but "the six healing sounds" from chi kung are best for their cooling effects, from what I know of.

Well, I seem to have returned to the begining again. Well Now the past few days it has been really cold in my room, about 65 DegF (18.33 DegC), when I wake up.
I think this notion of temperature is all relative [:)]
I doubt whether the natural temperature ever reaches 18C in my room, except for possibly in the very midst of summer. Usually, during the night at this time of year, the temperature in my bedroom is around maybe 5C (41F), and sometimes the water from condensation is frozen solid on the inside of the windows!
In the summer, if the temperature gets to 20C, it is just too hot to sleep some nights, and if the temperature ever reaches 25C is just way too hot for me - I try to avoid going out in it!
As I write this, mid-morning, the temperature is 7C (45F).
With best regards,
Adrian.
Currently where I am it's -15celcius(5deg fahrenheit). With the windchill it feels like it's about -39dcelcius(about -38 fahrenheit).
Looking out my window, I have a nice view of miles upon miles of fresh now, my drive way has about 6 feet of the stuff at it's peak. We just had a blizzard with about 30 centimetres(about 11 inches) and I think another one is coming tomorrow. It's pretty sad that I want to move to ireland or england for their great weather.
My suggestion is to move to Canada and open your bedroom window during the night.
I remember once during a weird winter it reached 15degrees celcius which is about what we get as an average during the summer on the east coast. I opened my window in my bedroom during the night and fell asleep. When I woke up at about 3:00am, I found that the temperature dropped to -5 degrees celcius and there was a blizzard starting.
Hello all

Please Adrian, never move to Australia mate, that's a nice cool winters day in most places! [:)]
Wow Cainam, you have been having this sleeping problem for a long time now havn't you, I think I remember putting together a little essay on sleeping patterns for you in a post a long time back. Other than hypnotherapy what else are you trying or have tried? Oh and Tom has a very good point with the taking your own temperature thing too. I think I remember you saying that you do shift work at the hospital, one might assume that the body gets used to doing shift work, but the unfortunate reality is that this is rarely the case, things often just get worse with time.
Aside from the possibility of an underlying medical problem (the body temp thing is strange and not normally associated with insomnia), going back to the fundamentals of diet, stress reduction and exercise is a good step. Try to do a good amount of exercise about two hours before your bedtime, if your getting home in the morning go for a run before you go to sleep - even if you are mentally tired. With many sleeping problems the cause is often a very fundamental one, not necessarily an underlying mental one. If you get motivated to become very fit and start to do what ever amount of exercise your body will let you, it is almost certain that your sleeping patterns will improve as your health and fittness does.
Id be more than happy to discuss this with you if you like

Fenris,
"Wow Cainam, you have been having this sleeping problem for a long time now havn't you, I think I remember putting together a little essay on sleeping patterns for you in a post a long time back. "
Well it's been about 4 years in the running. I know that I have insomnia but usually once I get to sleep I stay that way for at least 8 hours. The heat generation has been something that has been going on as far back as I can remember, but it is currently the worst it has been in a long, long time.
My eating and excersize habbits really haven't changed in 10 years. Well my eating habbits have probably been longer. My mother often says I eat like a 10 year old. It is only partially true. For the most part I have one maybe two meals a day, but usually just one. The only time it chanes is if I have several days of hard manual labor. At those time I tend to eat more but it will taper off quickly when I stop doing as much.
Although I do not have a regular physician I have been loooked over several times in the last couple of years. I have a yearly basic physical from the hospital and have managed to end up in the ER a couple of times. None of the x-rays or blood work I have had done has returned anything to worry about.
Stress. I do well at managing my stress levels. I take enough time off of work, I don't really worry about a whole lot, and I am generally easy going. I do however get stressed out some times and I usually know when that is and take action acordingly. I back tends to get all freakish if I don't watch my stress.
" I think I remember you saying that you do shift work at the hospital, one might assume that the body gets used to doing shift work, but the unfortunate reality is that this is rarely the case, things often just get worse with time."
Yes I do 2nd and 3rd shift work. This is not a problem for me since I am naturally a night person. I simply can not function before 11am. Even when I have mass amount of time off I stay on roughly the same schedual. I have found the perfect time for me to get up is between 3-5pm. I always wake up refreshed at that time. To me that seems normal. Getting up at 6 or 7 in the morning is just wrong on so many levels.
I do remember what every ones has suggested in the past I have tried most of it. Most of it works for a short time but I always revert back, and some of it has not worked at all or even worsend the condition. The hypnotherapy has been the best thing so far, it has lasted the longest. But I don't know if it is going to do the trick any more. I will find out after tonight (1/20) because I have another session.
If you were a woman, I'd say welcome to menopause. But since I presume you are not a woman, I'll offer up what I can:
Usually I am cold, but sometimes I wake up with night sweats. It is how my body copes with unwelcome entities - - - such as viruses, bacteria, alcohol, and foods my body doesn't like. The sweat comes out on my chest - - - and a lot of it, I mean, when it happens I'm dripping wet, but mostly on my chest.
So, if you are mystified, try keeping a food log. See if you notice a pattern based upon what you are eating or drinking. You could surprise yourself!

An update on my sleep issues for any interested.
It all went away and rather suddenly. Infact not since my last hypnotherapy session a week ago. Went explored why it was happening a little. Actually not on purpose. I told her I was at odds a little about a few things. My habits mostly, a need to change my life a little.
Her first question was about my smoking and what I wanted to do about it. That was all it took and I slipped into a state of division. I was of two minds. One peaceful and calm, the other agressive. It was the agressive side that actually wants to bring about some change in my life. I can only say that it felt like my own will power. It seems the heat I was expierencing was a result of a conflict on a psychological level. Will against habbit. The mind wanting to change the bodys dependancy.
Once I made a solid choice to change it all went away. Although I yet to make the change I am trying.
Thats great news mate!
Im glad to hear that you came to such a breakthrough, congratulations. Maybe this is the perfect time to set some new goals regarding your daily and health related habbits. Having taped into your firey motivational side you can achieve almost any personal goal you apply yourself to.
best regards
David
Well, I seem to have returned to the begining again. Well almost. My Hypnotherapist is going to be sad.
I haven't slept well in over a week now. I keep waking up sweating like mad. Now the temperatures here have been really nice, ranging in the mid 70's. (or 23.5 C, for you metric people.) Now the past few days it has been really cold in my room, about 65 DegF (18.33 DegC), when I wake up. But I still am waking up sweating. One day it was as low as 58 DegF (14.44 DegC) but still I awoke the same. It seems I have become once again my own personal space heater.
It is becoming really anoying since I have started to get used to getting good solid sleep lately. But now it is back to the four hour spurts.
Okay, I think I am done complaining now.
