My favourite is kazaa lite resurrection for smaller stuff (tunes) and e-mule for the big stuff (films, windows, etc). I cant answer your questions about the servers connections, though I suspect it makes very little difference since you are not downloading the files from said servers, only routing info through them (and I'm not even sure how much of this).

Do you understand what a "ping" is? Its when you send a packet of info from your computer, to another (eg a server), which the server then bounces back to you - ping is the time this take in milliseconds (ms). This is an indicator how fast your connections is - the lower, the better. I have not really encountered it in p2p programs, but it makes a "lot" of difference for online gaming when the ping is experiences as a delay in what you see happening and what is happening, or between sending a command and that command being undertaken (depending on game design or settings)

DC++ is very basic, its pure p2p without any of the handy stuff like downloading off multiple sources. It should be good for bigger files and I've know people to like it, but I've never found it very useful when compared to emule and KLR.

I use Emule plus (special version of emule) for the tiny stuff (like...err...the lil' games [:I])
and TurboTorrent for the big stuff.
well, let me tell you that-the only difference between servers is their location(which affects ping) and their speed.
content on different servers is different, however you can download content from any server, not only the one you are logged into. downloading from the one your logged into just makes it faster.
I don't need to explain what ping is,Inguma allready did.[8)]
My single, enternal wish...is to be truely free.

SO, if contents are different, when i make a search for a given topic  (lets say "trance"[:)]the results are from every server or from the one to wich i connected?

If its only from the connected server, how can i make a serach on all the servers without disconecting the current one?
I love you!

Jenia_San

where you search, look where it says the word "server".
not the name of the server you are connected to,just "server".
there is a drop-down there.
if you choose "global server"(or something like that) it will search ALL servers,no matter which one you are connected to at the present time.
I explained it to the best of my abilty.

I use Shareaza, whats good about this program is that is connects to almost all the P2P networks and you can choose not to share, well you have to share something if your connected to the EMULE network.  As for Kazaalite i use it for getting music thats about all its good for if your looking for some version of Kazaalite and Kazaalite Resurrection you can find them here www.freekazaalite.tk

As for DC++. DC++ is an open source client for the Direct Connect protocol. Direct Connect allows you to share files over the internet without restrictions or limits.  However Direct Connect is complicated to use if its your first time using the program.  I use to use Direct Connect couple years ago :( most of the time i couldnt find what i was looking for.

Rob

Shareza, sound cool, I'll remember that

Frankly, I would like a feature on KLR that refuses to allow people who dont share to upload from me. Do you think this is unfair?

Quite a few people are behind (NATed) firewalls; so it might not be so easy to share.  Also, sharing increases the chances to get sued by the RIAA... depending on the qunatity and legality of what you share...

Song swappers could face jail time
House OKs bill targeting users of 'peer to peer' networks
By Andy Sullivan

WASHINGTON - Users of Internet "peer to peer" networks, already dodging lawsuits from the recording industry, could face up to three years in prison under a bill passed by the U.S. House of Representatives Tuesday.

The House voted to enlist the government to a greater degree in the entertainment industry's fight against those who copy its products over the Internet.

Federal agents would be directed to educate the public about copyright rules and go after those who allow others to copy their music collections through "peer to peer" networks like Kazaa and Morpheus.

Ach, fascists!!!!!
But the less people who share, the more likely it is the generous ones will end up in prison. Which is just not cricket.
Besides, there are options in place on some p2p networks that make it very difficult for the Evil Ones ([;)]) to get you

What the hell is that RIAA?

MORE IMPORTANT: can they arrest people on other countrys?
I love you!

I'm almost certain that they can't arrest people outside USA.

Anyway,
I think eMule is currently the best file sharing client available. I've used Shareaza for some time but I don't like it, you don't have control and it seems to be slow.

I always connect to Razorback 2, a server with over half a million users. I think it's the best, at least for users in Europe. Ping is indeed important, and Razorback 2 usually has a ping of under 20 for me so that's great.

Kazaa doesn't have as many files as emule at all. Kazaa seems to be dying slowly if you ask me...

If you're using eMule it's kind of important to get a "Hidh Id". In the server list on the right it says wether you have a Low or High ID. If you have a Low ID you should find out what you can do about it.. because you get more results and can download from more people when you have a high id.

The RIAA has an equivalent in most countries...
In Canada, it's the CRIA
In France, it's the SCPP
Etc...

everything else that they do its bad...  ;-)

I use emule as my favorite program for PP conections but i have some questions:

What difference makes using different servers? I know that speed can change etc, but if i use, lets say, a Server called Bytdevils is that meaning that i will have more chances to find material related with pcs? I mean, can i find different materials and things just by using different servers?

If so, wich ones are the best for musics, pcgames, etc?

Other question: what is "ping" about? Is it true that it must be low to be good?

Second: i heard talk about a PP program called DC++ (i think is that the name). Is that good? better than emule? Wich is the best pp programa?

thanks
I love you!
