Very cool optical illusion below which relies on retinal fatigue .

Its better than most optical illusions .
Yeah, you are right.. it is better than most illusions.
I really thought it was a color picture until I looked away. Amazing.
I haven't had a thrill like that since the first time I saw the rocket in a "Magic Eye 3D" poster.
I thought it was really a colour picture, too...
Thanks for sharing!
You don't even need to look at the dot. It still works... or at least it did for me.
Another one

Think you are right on Jingo, it looks like it it based on the red-green and blue-yellow cones: the colors on the main image are the compliments of the colors we are meant to see in the "color-image", and when we flood the cones with one color, we bias them towards the color's compliment. For instance, try looking at something entirely red for a while- if you look at a white space, you will see green, as this is the compliment of the red.
Neato, thanx for posting
Now that one has got me, Nostic....
I think it may have something to do with our brain trying to compensate for afterimages, and actually deleting something that really is there, but I don't know........
That is crazy. I only looked at the dot for about 5 seconds and it looked like it was in color. But it is really early in the morning. Best optical illusion ever, seriously.
That was one of the neatest things I've seen in a long time. Thanks for sharing that. I, also, didn't need to look very long. A couple of seconds and then it was there. This happens with afterimages a lot for me, white and black tiled floors can look really neat.

I've noticed something like that before. Lie directly underneath a ceiling fan turned on medium. Concentrate on the center and the spinning blades will appear to spin faster and faster, then disappear.
Do you have a lot of time on your hands, by any chance? :D

you can can get that on a lot of things like stare at a spoon long enough and it disappears but on the note of the fan, depending on the angle you stare at it eventually it appears to spend in the opposite direction and I figure that its your eyes trying to catch the movements of the fan but can only manage seeing it here and there and it turns into a slide show sending it into opposite spin. I am sure there is some type of scientific mumbo jumbo to describe it properly but what I typed is close enough I would gather.[/quote]
