This is a question that's been bugging me for ages. I've read it in many books but, (may be it's a stupid question) why is it not a good idea to AP while suffering from mental illness?
I'm not sure if I want to know, I've been suffering from it as long as I could remember. The only thing I can think of is, meeting a demon and make condition worse. I've had a few things attack me, but nothing to put me off doing it, and APing gives me hope.
I'd like to hear your views, thanks.

Well, here's what I think:
First of all, it depends on the mental illness we're talking about.  Unfortunately most categories of mental illness have different degrees of impact on how a person thinks.
So I think it's safe to assume that:
If your will is tied to what you experience (for example, if a voice tells you to do something and you think you have to do it)
If you can't control how you react emotionally to stimulus (that is, you are emotionally imbalanced by what you perceive) then those are two very important alarm bells that say 'Don't do it'.
Some people hear voices and can function- they know that the voices are (whether internal or external) just 'background', and can do exploration- I know someone who is quite sane and functional and hears voices- I think he's just fine doing this-
But I also know people who have these types of experiences that unhinge and torture them, who fill him with fear, and frankly, can put his relatives in danger if he tries to expand these types of experiences.  For him, doing this type of thing is just asking for more trouble.

So, take this as opinion, as I am in no way qualified to give psychological advice.

who said you can't AP because of some mythological mind illness?

What do you consider "Mental Illness"?
Retarded people? or people who keep their thoughts to themselves?
