two books come to mind.

"the Magician's Workbook" and "Practice of Magic"

also, the old books are what the new books get their information from :)
as below, so above

Thank you Moonburn, I will check those out!

I just found this great thread (which was sticky in the Magic section, how could I miss it![^]). If anyone else has missed it, here it is http://www.astralpulse.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=5395.

In regards to Qigong, you can't go wrong in any of its branches.

I practice Pal Dan Gum. Spring Forest Qigong is pretty good also. The problem with the latter is the products to learn the techniques are really expensive. If you search on Amazon, you can get a Qigong book for a small price. The book I got was by Stanley D. Wilson.

Good luck.

Nick

With respect to hermetics, a book that I would highly recommend is The Kybalion by Three Initiates. It is a book of Hermetic Philosophy and an invaluable read.

Also, take a look at our Welcome to Magic forum and read over the topic entitled GREAT BOOKS for a long list of recommendations.

Very best,

Hey

""Initiation into Hermetics" by Franz Bardon"

This is a good book IF you want a complete step by step course in the practical aspects, though the "theory" at the start is good.
You know, my first reaction when I read "out of date" was `pah! hermetics is thousands of years old!!` but I guess some stuff is outdated eg his views on what happens to the body once a person has OBE'd. That said I dont think it really matters too much, its a training manual which a lot of people recommend.

As Nick said, the Kybalion is excellent, though I haven't read the whole thing I have been digesting it VERY slowly....

Um...thinking....am not on my computer at the moment which is a shame but there are some free qigong type books online somewhere which are supposed to be pretty good. But I cant remember their names for the life of me! Useful I know lol....

Thanks for the replies! I just finished reading the GREAT BOOKS thread in the Magic section. If you remember anything Inguma just let me know [^]. Is it wise to start with Hermetics or magic in general if you are a beginner in all this (New Age, Meditation, AP etc)? I was thinking about approaching it carefully, starting to meditate once a day and doing some energy work 30-60min/day for about 6 months(?) before starting with Hermetics.

The question is.. does it matter if I start with Hermetics now or later? [:)]

Rob

If you get initiation into hermetics you'll find that all that meditation (and visualisation) stuff is included as some of the very first excercises to practice in the book, and he keeps you on them until you become very proficient. But! He doesn't to my knowledge talk about energy raising practices soo yeah sure add them in.
I dunno, your choice of course, though I would probably say wait and become proficient in meditation first and then decide which branch (of magick etc) you want to go down, if you are still interested.

oh and the qigong was falun dafa at http://www.falundafa.org/eng/ [8D]
I dont agree with all the things he says but mebbe the excercises are good anyway....

Thanks Inguma, I'll have a look at the site. I have alot of reading to do now [^]

Falun Dafa is more of a religion-based Qigong.

I started off exploring Qigong via Falun Dafa...with being a poor student, the 2-books I initially bought on it made me want to go ahead and try it out, but the more I read, the more I knew it was definately not for me.

Beware! [8D]

Do you practice any Qigong at all at the moment? If so, what kind of is it? Is there a webpage? I'm asking alot of questions [:D]

I practice Pal Dan Gum.

You can get the book from Amazon if "possible" for $14. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0915801752/qid=1089009476/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i1_xgl14/103-9037025-4136659?v=glance&s=books&n=507846

Other Qigong techniques seem to be much more of an expensive venture to learn. For example Spring Forest Qigong which requires you to buy an entire kit which is past the $100 mark.

I will probably buy that Qigong book by Stanley D. Wilson, seems like a good starting point. Have you noticed any changes, in health and so forth? I see all these pages say it can do miracles (and i don't doubt it). I'm just curious if you have gotten any results? [:)]

BlackBox

Well I do Qigong in conjunction with other things like N.E.W., so the combination of it all makes it hard to differentiate between singular techniques with their own particular effects.

That said, I have indeed noticed my body becoming 'impeccable' with energy and stamina. I can't vouch for its effects as a 'miracle-worker' because I've never really been that ill. Or at least my 'healthy mind' in the last two or so years has allowed me a ill-less life for the most part. I just don't think I could ever become too ill anymore with all of these activities in my life...

:D

For the price the Wilson book is a must!

If you wear the same clothes consistently while practicing qi gong, they become 'energized' and when you are sick, you will heal faster by wearing them, since they will have accumulated qi energy. I wouldn't recommend washing them unless they really start to smell bad, but since qi gong is a fairly relaxed exercise, I doubt you'd be sweating in them a whole lot, if at all.

I am hoping to move somewhere where I will be able to practice and learn Empty Force qi gong. I want to be a healer, but I would also like to have a qi gong for martial arts purposes. Empty Force will hopefully provide what I need.

Just got the Wilson book today! Almost took 2 weeks for them to send it, but now I have it! Time to start reading and practicing [:o)]

I've been doing the Eight Silken Movements for 3 mornings now. It makes me wake up a little bit quicker but nothing more yet, and I am not expecting it to go fast either. One question for you Blackbox (or anyone that does Pal Dan Gum), Do you really do all of these in 6 minutes? I have done them in 20 minutes with O.K speed, I guess it's all about how good you are with the movements?

Cheers [:)]

I have just read a few threads about Qigong and Hermetics (one of them was the one with ArchAngel Michael [:D]). I was wondering if anyone knows any good URLs with information how to get going with these two topics, or maybe even a few books? I looked at this thread http://www.astralpulse.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=3359&SearchTerms=hermetics and all I couldn't find anything for the beginner in those links.

I have been looking at a few books, I don't know if this first one has anything to do with Qigong but it's worth asking about[8D]

1. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0062517791/qid=1088781884/sr=1-5/ref=sr_1_5/104-2306254-1306338?v=glance&s=books

The second one is "Initiation into Hermetics" by Franz Bardon
2. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1885928122/104-2306254-1306338?v=glance
This book did have some really good reviews but some say it was outdated and that there are better alternatives. This is one of the reasons I wanted to ask you guys if you have any recommendations and could point me in the right direction!

P.S I didn't really know where else to post this since I had both Hermetics and Qigong in the same thread [:I]
