The Magic of Music

it's a good idea, imo. i've been thinking of trying something like that for a long time because i've felt the same thing happen: when singing certain songs, everytime i hit certain notes i'll feel a rush of emotions or feelings. i'd been thinking of trying to catalog them but i guess i'm just too lazy ^_^ .

i'd never known about the dna thing before, but i did learn in physics class that everything physical does vibrate at certain frequencies and full multiples of that frequency, so i guess it's just a simple step from there.

music can indeed be a powerful thing to a human being, but not always. i find that i don't feel those emotions or feelings (no matter how perfectly i sing the notes) if my heart is closed when i sing/hear it. but the more open my heart is, the more affected i am.

a while ago, when i was thinking about possibly cataloging the musical notes that moved me, i was thinking about what kind of song i'd make out of them and i figured if anything i'd make a song that took a person's heart through a journey of sorts: first some calming and casual music to put them at ease and to relax their heart, then move on to some slow and sad, but stirring, music, as though a loved one had been kidnapped away and the listener is lamenting it. of course i'd then bring about the person's heart from sadness to passion, a strong desire to win back their love. from there a journey to find their opponent and then an emotional equivalent to a climactic grand battle (cause everybody loves great battles), and then on to a hard won but infinately worthy victory and finally to happiness. i'd love to hear such a song played out one day, but alas, as i said before, i'm too lazy to do it myself ^_^ .

i'm interested though, what instrument will you be using? or will you be using more than one? (i've also notice that in myself the older instruments like the piano and the violin cause far more of a stir in my heart than any guitar or whatnot, but that might just be me [;)])

good luck with this euphoric [:)]

Is any of the 'DNA music' accessible online? Where can one find it?
What is the sound of no leaves cloving?

Kakkarot - i think i feel the same way about the heart being open makes things more emotional. I've experienced the same sot of thing myself. Actually it was on a highway, the last place i'd expect to have a rush of emotions. It was early morning though, and i was watching the sun through the clouds. That combined with the music i was listening to caused it i guess.

The instruments i'll be using... well i haven't thought about that yet. I'm primarily a heavy metal guitarist so the first thing that came to my head was to write an epic metal song, but i think it might end up more than that if i can be bothered (i'm really lazy you see [|)]).

No_leaf - I wish i knew. I'd love to hear the songs too, but i don't know where to find them. There might be more information on them in the book that's mentioned at the bottom of that article.

First off i'm not really sure where to put this. I was going to post it in the Spiritual Developement forum, but then i thought it doesn't really relate to reincarnation and karma etc. So i'll just stick it here for now and if the mods need to move it then so be it. Now to it!

My two main passions in life are music and metaphysics. Because of this, i'm naturally looking for ways to link the two together. When i find bands who have spiritual lyrics (see signature [:P]) and they have good music, i get excited and they would almost immediately become one of my favourite bands. One this i really want to do, though, is try and bridge the two worlds together. Whether that means creating music that can trigger instant projection, or music that can heal deadly diseases, i'm not sure. All i know is that i want to somehow bring the two together.

What makes me think i can do this? Well, in a word - frequency. Everything we know of vibrates at one frequency or another. Actually, i know nothing about quantum mechanics or physics or anything like that, so for now i'll just stick to everything we know of within a human being vibrates at one frequency or another. Likewise, musical notes vibrate at certain frequencies. For example, if the string of a violin vibrates at a specific frequency, a musical note will be produced according to that frequency. This is why different notes can be produced by moving fingers up and down the neck, thus making the frequency higher or lower.

This (http://www.innerself.com/Miscellaneous/human_harmonies.htm) is an interesting article that explains about music effecting the physical and spiritual health of human beings. In the article, it describes how Dr Susumu Ohno, a geneticist, assigned musical notes to the four nucleotides of the DNA. They went - "do to cytosine (C), re and mi to adenine (A), fa and sol to guanine (G), la and ti to thymine (T)" Dr Ohno eventually set appropriate musica dimensions for these notes and created "songs of the DNA". As described in the article - "Many persons hearing them for the first time are moved to tears; they cannot believe that their bodies, which they believed to be mere collections of chemicals, contain such uplifting, inspiring harmonies -- that they are musical."
So as you can see, music can and has influenced human behaviour and emotion to some extent. I think, given the right circumstances at least, that music do much more for human beings.

The human chakras, too, have all been assigned certain musical notes. Different websites seem to be giving me slightly different answers, but they are generally all around the same area, and are usually only a sharp or a flat apart (not very much for those who know nothing about music theory). Here's one particular website that gives detailed information on frequencies, including the chakras: http://members.aol.com/Lambdom3/Chakras.html

If i can gather enough discipline i might just experiment by recording tracks of just one note being held for long periods of time, and just laying there while the note is constantly playing. I'd be interested to see if i get any sensations around my chakras during this time. Of course, i'll have to do a number of tests to make sure it's not just my mind focusing on the chakra that is supposed to be activating, but i'll figure something out.
The purpose of these tests would just be confirmation to myself that infact music can effect the human chakras. After this i may try and construct my own songs around my results and see what i feel.

I think that it may even be possible to use music to tap into the mind. I've read many people report hearing music for the first time and feeling a strange deja vu, and even remembering things that seem so real and familiar, yet never happened (at least not in that lifetime). So maybe it's possible to bring up memories from past existences through music.

Of course, it may take me years to build that bridge so i can experience epic spiritual moments from listening to epic music, but anything is possible (yes i'm familiar with the paradox there [:P])

And now for some interesting/related links!
http://www.phy.mtu.edu/~suits/notefreqs.html - The specific frequencies of musical notes
http://www.innerself.com/Miscellaneous/human_harmonies.htm - The same article i linked to above
http://members.aol.com/Lambdom3/Chakras.html - The other thing i linked to above
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0892813121/qid=1075284897/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_1/102-9317698-6326519?v=glance&s=books - A book that looks interesting, but that i don't have any money for at the moment. Still, i thought i might reference it anyway [:D]
http://discoverthesound.com/sys-tmpl/chakrachartcolors/ - Another site displaying chakras and their corresponding notes. Also something about Crystal Bowls that i haven't paid much attention to.
http://www.owlsdottir.com/chakras/chakras.html - Not specifically musical, but it has detailed information on each chakra so i just thought i'd throw it in for kicks

BTW, i'm not sure how accurate all of these websites are.

Ok so any comments, questions or anything are encouraged. After all, that's why i posted this - for feedback! [?]
