Title: Server issues
Post by: Adrian on August 31, 2010, 03:32:26
Dear all,

As many of you will know, the forums have been unavailable for a few days.

I was away a lot myself and was unaware of these issues, and was not made aware of them.

Because the issue occurred about 8 days ago it was out of range of the automated daily and weekly backups which would have ensured minimum data loss - the weekly backup backed up the database issue after 7 days - and so the best we can do is to restore another, older backup from 2 months ago.

This is obviously not ideal, but at least we are back, with my apologies for the missing posts etc.

In Love and Light,

Adrian.

I've been at a loss!! Life is incredibly boring without this forum to waste time on. Good to be back!  :-D

Most were under the impression that you were silently updating or upgrading the forum software. I posted a thread on the other forum (http://www.ourultimatereality.com/forums/astral-pulse-forums-amp-the-stillunderconstruction-astral-pulse-site-t1832.0.html) as a way to try to help let others know what was going on, and for the last 10 days people have been joining the Astral Pulse IRC Channel @ irc://irc.freenode.net/astralpulse asking questions about its status.

Thank you for bringing this back. :-D

Yes - I guess this is what happens generally - everyone assumes that something is going on behind the scenes :)

Usually I am here every day, and would have fixed this issue within hours, but it just had to be a week when I was not in a position to know because I was not on this or the OUR forums.

I did all I could to bring the forums back from where they left off, but without anything to go on I decided that it was better to bring the forums back with what I have so we can continue.

Of course I will be looking at ways to prevent a repetition - to the extent possible.

In Love and Light,

Adrian.

Isn't there a way to get back the Books review threads prior to the crash. I also lost my account.

I don't feel that I want to re-create those book reviews in a new form, it would be best to get the original ones back.

Unfortunately, Pauli, but that can not happen.
The forums were rolled back to how they were two months ago.

As you can see, you didn't have an account two months ago.

Everything from then to now has effectively been lost to the astral.  :)

I would like to say a big thank you to Adrian for getting us back up and running.
A lot of us have been lost without this forum to call home.  :)

I was very disappointed to see that the forum was down, really glad it's up and running again.

Google cache is sweet. Get it before it's gone:

Ooooh how do you look up cached stuff? :D

I just google it, in this case "astral pulse books pauli". That thread was the first to come up, and I clicked "cached" at the end of the link instead of the actual link.

Excellent Stookie :)

Google indexes Astral Pulse every day without fail, so all the content is there somewhere.

If there are any posts or topics of particular importance then I suggest we grab them from Google while we can, and re-post.

In Love and Light,

Adrian.

Great that the server is back online. Use googles cache before the cached pages gets replaced by newer broken ones.

I looked up these forum stats:

Google cache from August 20, 2010, 18:30:11:
245670 Posts in 29532 Topics by 35849 Members

Right now:
241169 Posts in 29144 Topics by 35474 Members.

If you google "cache:webpageurl" you get to the cached page instantly. Example "cache:www.astralpulse.com/forums/".

If you are googling and having problems finding your post you can add "site:astralpulse.com" to the search and it will only display results from here :)

I've been erased. But I'm back  :-D Was worried when I couldn't get back to the forum. Even more concerned when I couldn't log back in!
