Starting a Reiki business

I am in a similar situation.  I would like to provide tarot card readings.  I have thought of doing it over the net but I have been told it will be too expensive.  So I will have to see people in my home.  

I will be interested also to find out if people have any ideas.  Thanks for this thread Ramiel and by the way, where in Oz are you from?

Born and raised in Sydney, but moved to Brisbane just over a year ago. I'm currently in Sydney, however, while uni holidays are on.

um, are you sure reiki would sell, since there are so many people and places which will teach and attune people for free? just wondering.

People do pay for reiki attunements and healing.  They usually feel that something they pay for is better than if they didn't pay for it.  I have been running a psuedo-business out of my dorm room for reiki attunements and healings but I don't charge.  I have it more as a donation system where if the person feels compelled to pay they may.  You would be surprised how many people under that kind of condition would actually pay and pay well.[]  With a reiki or any spiritual business the first and foremost concern HAS to be customer service.  The more you can accomodate their needs the better you will do.

Good point Kakarot, but where I am I can definetely see it selling. I live near a very alternative, funky suburb so that shouldn't be a problem.

I'm planning on initially offering it to students at my university, and then going from there. $20 dollars per session sounds about right for them. We'll see how it goes, I'm pretty confident it will work. Just need to cast the right prosperity spell!

Hey everyone, I'm planning on starting a Reiki business which will expand to other alternative healing modalities as I learn them or bring new people into the fold. I was just wondering if anyone had ever run such a business and if they would have any suggestions, tips, or hints that got them through difficult times, or made the entire process easier, which might not appear obvious at first?

Basically I've got a good idea of how everything is going to fit together - premises, target market, and all those business concepts. The business area isnt too much of a concern its just how I should go about the business that I'm interested in.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
