Very interesting, indeed...

However, they're jumping to the initial conclusion that the decay rates are being "mutated".  Perhaps this is something natural.

In the end, I doubt our modern science will solve it... but, it's still "interesting".  :)

Mattoid

Aye, i read about this last month, very interesting.

This particular article was slightly strangley worded in some cases, but quite interesting as well.

I don't believe in this 2012 eschatology stuff, but if I did need to pick a method of delievery, the increasing solar-flare activity that has been observed of late does seem like a very good candiate.

But as Xanth hinted, with this particular situation it is hard to say if this is really a special event, since we have only recently developed the instruments sophisticated enough to carbon date or to meaure quantum solar effects, so we have no real data history to compare the current times to. At least with hurricanes, we can look through a few hundred years of records to see if we are exceptional or not, but with this stuff, who can say, if the meters have only be running for decades?

nobody said it's not natural.  mutation is just a word to describe a transformation, it doesn't imply something unnatural.

like stillwater, i'm not on the 2012 eschatology band wagon.  but this is still cool.
be awesome.

I just read a book that was supposedly channeled from the "sirian high council". It was quite a good read.

Among other things they were saying that whats going to happen in 2012 is that the sun is going to collapse into a black hole and our solar system is going to be sucked into the 4th dimension. The way they explained it came across as quite plausible suprisingly.

For anyone into channelled books it was called the Cosmos Of Soul.

That is a damn big stretch. Our sun is not nearly large enough to be the sort of star that collapses into a black hole... some pretty jazzy physics magic would need to go down for that to be possible. Not saying it could never happen, but it sounds wayyyy out there. If a series of events happened in our solar system such that the sun were rendered capable of becoming a black hole, it is pretty much a certainty that the changes would have killed us far in advance of being rocketed into the a black hole; our existence here on earth is dependent upon the finest of circumstances being balanced just right more or less continuously. There are tons of things like the physical constants that would kill us off if they deviated even .0001%. We are like the cosmos' most fickle and difficult-to-care-for aquarium. And if we are already dead before the earth is sucked into the black hole, why would that even be necessary for a "4th dimension" transfer?

Sounds like pseudoscience... the sun will need to transform into a red giant first and that's billions of years away.

Wouldn't a black hole with the same mass as the sun have the same gravitational pull as the sun?

EDIT:

Quote from: http://imagine.gsfc.nasa.gov/docs/science/know_l2/black_holes.htmlBut contrary to popular myth, a black hole is not a cosmic vacuum cleaner. If our Sun was suddenly replaced with a black hole of the same mass, Earth's orbit around the Sun would be unchanged. Of course, Earth's temperature would change, and there would be no solar wind or solar magnetic storms affecting us. To be "sucked" into a black hole, one has to cross inside the Schwarzschild radius. At this radius, the escape speed is equal to the speed of light, and once light passes through, even it cannot escape.

our star isn't big enough to collapse into a black hole.  it doesn't have the mass necessary to punch that kind of hole into the fabric of space-time.

like stillwater said, it would take some serious physics magic to make that happen.

be awesome.

It wasnt really put across as science. It was more from a metaphysical perspective. They also said a tenth dimensional being called the one coded master had come here to hold the solar system together so it isnt all torn apart in the process. I got the impression that they may have meant that our whole solar system including the sun would appear in the 4th dimension.

We really know very little for sure about black holes. Even if in linear time our sun collapsing is billions of years away who's to say that in consciousness terms it effects wont begin in 2012. My undersanding of the little we know of black holes is that our physics regarding time and the speed of light and stuff start to fall apart once we apply them to a singularity.

They were saying that black holes are like the openings to the silver chords of the universe - that it's conscious and is experiencing itself in different "dimensions" in much the same way as we ap.

I'm not saying I think this is going to happen but I wont be surprised if it does. My inner guidance doesnt tell me its BS and I'm starting to trust my intuition more and more these days.
