When your meditating and or going to sleep sometime I notice the whole body do a sudden violent jerk. It's almost like you were falling and caught your self but your obviously wasn't, nor did it really feel like it. What causes this?
Either you're not fully relaxed and this is the first time that you noticed your still active body regress into relaxation, or your ego doesnt like it at all

I'm not sure. I have done meditations lasting hours without this happening. But today almost 20 minutes in, my whole body just spazzed like I was catching my self from falling. I know this happens occasionally when Not mediatating but while falling asleep as well.
You've already answered the question yourself. You caught yourself falling asleep. You = ego. It's that simple. Fear of the unknown the ego doesnt like
Yeah,i think monk is right!
I feel the same,at night when i go to bed i keep my mind awake, and i notice how i fall asleep, then in the next moment pop out back in my bed, yeah it's kinda like you fall!
I observed this phenomena on me for about 3 days, and my mind is getting used to it,i could practically feel myself falling asleep and in the next milisecon i realize that i am out of slepp, then back, then out and so on like mybe 15 times per night!I remember one night i didn't even slept well..cause was too little sleep!!But,as i say i think your mind/body could get used to this!
I also have this sometimes, usually when I am busier than normal, and a little bit stressed.
It's a well known phenomena.

I've always figured it's the onset of a projection.. The falling sensation and the beginning of being projected out of the physical. It can be very startling and wake you up
I've heard someone said body jolts are the result of the astral body coming back. It has left in mind split with little awareness, then you wake up and the astral body is tugged in again and you jolt.

Well, let's look at it from a "you're not in your body to begin with" scenario...
You're not IN your body so you're not "coming back" to it either. So... if I had to venture a guess, I'd say that it's a perception of non-physical movement you're perceiving in your physical state. You perceive your non-physical self moving when in actuality you're still focused within the physical. One might then call this a Focus overlay experience involving the perception of non-physical motion. :)
See? Easy as pie. LoL

That's a very good way to describe it! I agree with you that we're not in our bodies but I think for a lot of people who are fairly new to spirituality and OBE's etc., it is quite difficult to think in that way. Perhaps. Even myself, when I become aware in the NP, I say to myself: Hey, I'm out! Not: Hey I shifted from the physical to the non-physical! Lol.
But perhaps one day that will happen too. :-D

Definitely! :)
It's something I struggled with as well before accepting it as a personal truth.
I mean, we're taught from the very start of our lives that all there is is what we can process with our five senses and that what we are *IS* this meatsuit we call a human body. It can take awhile to become comfortable with shedding that belief. Mostly because it's a mass-human-wide one.
