It certainly works as a gamble in that risk is involved. If you are seriously interested in learning how it works start by reading all you can. The internet can provide you with a great deal of useful information.

Once you've searched Google for sites to answer some of your questions, try reading books or business papers and magazines. If time and money permit, you can confer with a financial advisor as well. Good luck!

From spending several years looking after the computer systems of stock brokers, Beavis has summed it up perfectly.

Go stand outside your local stock market for a while and watch the punters looking at the information board. It's no different to watching people at horse races, except they often play for much higher stakes.

In all seriousness though, if you have some money that you want to invest in shares, don't try doing it yourself at first. It really is a gamble. Find a good reputable money management firm, and let them have a crack at it. See, in these cases, greed is good. Stock brokers make a comission of any gains, so the more money they make for you, the more they get themselves.

You could always open up an E-Trade account on their website (http://www.etrade.com).

I did that a couple years ago.  You open an account and fund it with X amount of dollars.  Then you can take any portion of that X amount of dollars and place it in whatever stocks you want.

You can follow their daily progress on that site, seeing the money gained and earned.

I invested mostly in tech stocks, but not large amounts....so at the end of the day, I think I walked away with almost $1,000 profit.

I would invest in some drug stocks like g or acid.  They have less risks financially.  I just wouldn't mess with the actual substances.  Good way to make money fast though, if you have a patsy.
