Okay, here's my question... Are we talking about the Talamasca as in, like, the books weren't actually fiction kinda way or are we talking in the "there's a real life counterpart to the group in the books" kinda way? 'cause... you'll have to forgive me but there's a ton of groups that could be considered the real-life talamasca nowadays, and i've never heard the actual name outside of the books.

I realize it's been mentioned in a few fictional books with fictional situations.  I'm curious as to why more then one fictional book has used the Talamasca in them.  Is there some alleged organization called this?  If it is purely fictional, why does more then one author talk about it, even if in a fictional way.  I personally don't think it'll come of anything.  Don't know if it's real, doubt I'll ever find out.  But does anyone else have any ideas as to why the Talamasca organization is a popular reference as a group studying the paranormal?

I don't know anything about a real organization of the Talamasca. I think authors borrow such things from each other to give them a sense of being real and having more depth. One of my favorite fictional authors, Brian Lumley, uses Lovecraft mythos in many of his books. That hardly makes it real, but it does make the mythos seem more grand and adds to it overall.

Very true, it would and does add some appeal to the idea, and thus the book itself.  It just sparked some interest when I saw it in more then one book.  It's definately possible that it is a borrowed concept.  Reminds me of the men in black though.

Has anyone ever had any experiences with this organization?
