I can't add anything to the site you posted above, but I found a site for anyone interested in other mysterious beasts that've been sighted.
http://www.parascope.com/en/cryptozoo/predators02.htm
This site is where I first read about Mothman. A couple of other weird beasts listed there are the Loveland Frog and the Dover Demon, which have pretty neat stories to go with them. That page is actually part of a bigger site, and if you look around you can find a lot of information, but how much of it is true is something that you'll have to decide for yourself.

After finding out more about Mothman, what do you think about the movie you saw? Does it stick to the actual pretty closely story? Is it worth the time to go out and rent if I already know the jist of the Mothman story? I wanted to see it but never got the chance, and I've heard a couple things about the movie but I can't even remember what they were. Lately my memory has started to crap out on me with so much nonsense running through my head.
I have not seen the mothman, nor do I know anyone who has, but have done research and seen a few things on it. One thing that the movie doesn't address are the men in black. Seeing the mothman was just a sign of the things to come. It's the men in black that are the most interesting part. In the movie (spoiler ahead) at the end when the bridge collapses, that is truth. It did happen. The strange thing is that after seeing the "mothman" a few people reported seeing a strange man, dressed in an all black suit and black tie and hat, "snooping" around the bases of the bridge. Not a week later the disaster occured. Also, it was very uncommon for the "mothman" to actually be seen in reality. More often people would only have reacuring dreams of the mothman and what would happen, but it was the men in black that would actually be seen in reality. In any case, I personally find the mothman to be the MOST interesting of all supernatural experiences in human history. Since the movie it's more difficult to research the topic without coming up with movie pages and such. I would further research the towns that the mothman has taken place in, rather then the actual events. You may find more there. I can't be certain, but I believe there is a different name for the occurances other than "the mothman prophecies". Like "the calamatyville horror" or something. Obviously not that, but I believe that it had a towns name in it, and not the movie title. If you can find that you may find more info on the matter.
No leaf, from what others have said the book is a much better option. The movie seems to leave out a lot of information that the book has, and the book was written by the guy who actually experienced this stuff. I personally found the movie to be pretty good and some of the events in the movie do seem to have been a part of the real story. It dragged on a bit for me, but overall it was enough to get me interested in researched the phenomenon again. It was also enough for me to get just a little hesitant about keeping the curtains open that night, especially after i heard a strange scream/howl thing [:o)][:D]
So the movie probably doesn't go into any great detail. It seems to be good for people who are interested in the concept though. I haven't read the book and i haven't found too much info on the net so it's hard for me to say just how detailed it was, but from what i've heard the book is much more detailed. I'll probably end up purchasing it.
Alpha, i've heard stuff about men in black being seen after reported alien sitings, and there are suggested connections between the mothman and UFOs (apparently Point Pleasant has been a rich source of strange things like this). I wonder if ETs have anything to do with this. I haven't seen any real evidence to suggest that, but it's interesting to think about.
BTW, thanks for the link no leaf [:P]
I think the mothman is real, although I have never seen one.
I have also tried doing some research on it and mostly what I get is stuff from the movies... but I am going to keep looking.

Mothman makes me think of a shapeshifter (mammal or insect?), and an energy source or force. The instinctual characteristics of the moth(?) or bat-like creature would seem to be a clue to the meaning of it's manifesting purpose.Where did the name Mothman originate?
I haven't had the time or chance to read about the true accounts of the Mothman phenomenom. I can't help thinking Mothman could be a collection of some sort of energy.
Hmmm shape-shifter... i've never thought of that before!
The name "mothman" originated in the media i believe, just due to how the reports described the thing.
I wonder if there is a website where you can find the most recent sightings of the mothman... if anyone finds one please leave the link

Here is another site with some info.

I use to visit a site at a yahoo group owned by Loren Coleman (an author on the subject), but, can't re-locate it. I'll keep trying to find it. If anyone is interested in finding it, try looking it up in the yahoo groups. I can't remember the name of the site unfortunately. However, I do have this link to his web sight.

I scanned over the info from the first link I placed on this post. I have to wonder [:)], because when I was a small child, my family had a dog killed by what my dad said was a chicken hawk. I hope this is just a coincidence!
I too think this Mothman mystery is one of the most significant in the realm of the paranormal. When I first heard of the movie I was not the least bit interested. One day it was conviently before me for a discounted rental. I took it home and watched the movie. I've been fascinated by it ever since. An online friend of mine saw the movie for the first time as well. She too thought there is something very significant to this Mothman.
My belief is that the Mothman fell through a dimensional portal into our dimension from an alternate Earth reality, one where Humans didnt evolve but instead the creatures (of which the mothman is one of them) is the evolved species.
That would be cool Aries, but perhaps the sightings are kept confidential?
Thanks for the links wisp! That second one is expecially cool!
Yet another interesting theory there Hephaestus.
This might be worth exploring further when i get out of my body. I'm sure i can do something more when i'm out than when i'm in.
I saw the movie after seeing a mothman in a dream. I thought he was a dark fairy or angel and he didn't seem evil just melancholy in my dream.
Im not sure but no one has linked angels to mothmen
early angels where violent beings and usually carried out gods wrath
someone who is able to astral project should seek out these mothmen,
the mothmen prophecies gave me such a weird feeling, I thought it was super creepy
gargoyles mothmen angels, reptilian creatures?
the movie gave no insight into the intention of the mothmen just that they invoked fear
anyhow, if anyone has and astral experiences with such a creature, you should really share it
From what I've read "The Mothman Prophecies" strays quite alot from the actual story. The actual story was of sightings of a large bat/moth like beast one time red eyes were spotted in a mans yard and he was too chicken to go save his dog. The same night people reported seeing a dead dog of the same breed on the side of a road and several minutes later on their way back through it was gone. The mothman seemed to hang out in caverns and the disaster did happen shortly after the mothman disappeared. In other words what I've read there was nothing to do with it foretelling the future like in the movie or any other psychic stuff. Based upon this and the fact that it seemed bat like was mostly out at night and hanged around a cave near a chemical plant I would say that it could have been a mutant bat which would explain why it disappeared shortly after, the mutations should have killed fairly quickly.
However if I misread it and the story in the movie is accurate I would like to mention a theory I have read on one website that actually deals with OBEs and what not which I don't often visit. It was in the favourite movies section of the hostess. It said that perhaps the mothman was an entity which fed off the massive energy created by a disaster in order to manifest temporarily in the physical.
More interesting ideas posted! Thanks for the ideas everybody.
One thing with the projecting to find out more about this is that, since we don't know much about this mothman, for all we know it can harm those in the etheric or astral as well. Maybe not kill them, but it may be able to do something.
Ok i recently saw the movie "The Mothman Prophecies". I had done brief research on the mothman phenomenon before then, but i didn't turn up much more than a few stories. After i saw the movie i was prompted to search again, and i haven't come up with much more. I'm just interested in what theories people here have about this strange creature, or if you've ever seen it or know somebody who has.
I find it very intriguing and i want to learn more about it. Here's the best site i've found on it so far: http://www.prairieghosts.com/moth.html
