Title: The Seemingly IMPOSSIBLE Just Happened

First, were the speakers powered from the power strip or were they on batteries?  If no batteries and unplugued... hum... that is weird indeed!

No batteries, because whenever I unplug the speakers to plug in my headphones they always are off.  (The lights which show the volume level on my speakers were off) but the noise was still coming out of them.

Was the phone off the hook? My phone emits a loud siren sound when i don't put it back properly.

have you tried taking the speakers apart, or getting them checked out?

Arcane:The noise was coming from the speakers, and the telephones are fine.  This has never happened before.

kakkarot:Nope, if it happens again I sure will, I don't know why it happened, but everything is working fine now.

If they were unplugged, the only thing I can think of is a strong electromagnetic wave setting the magnets in the speaker elements in motion. But for an EM wave to do that means it has to be incredibly powerful... Are there any high-voltage power lines or anything else that that uses large amounts of electricity in your vincinity?

To maybe expand on Ceriel N's questions, was the sound coming from the speakers steady and constant or did it fade it and out?

I don't live by any high voltage power lines.  I live in a residential zone, there is a supermarket that is about a mile away from me though, across from that supermarket is another supermarket and a group of restaraunts.

wow. You have now entered the Twilight zone.

for whome ever said that it could be an EM wave, wouldn't it short out all electronics around it? just a though.

if you are positive it wasn't the smoke detector, you probably had an electro-magnetic disturbance. I.E. a ghost/presence making itself known...in a big way! has someone close to your family recently passed away? or do other wierd things happen in your home?

I know it wasn't my fire alarm, because it is in the room.  Also, I have heard it go off from when I am cooking.

This was way louder, when it first started going off I thought I was going to go deaf.

Dear Reason,

Something similar has happened to me three times, only the sound was a voice. Do some research on the matter, it is worth your time.

I was just replying to another topic in another forum, and out of the blue a siren sound came from my speakers.  It was very very loud.  Scared me to death, and my ears still hurt.  At first it was so loud I was trying to find out where it came from.  THen I found out it was coming from my computer/speakers.  I unplugged everything, and it was still ringing.  But the noise was coming out of my speakers.  This loud siren like noise, where even with my ears plugged it was loud as heck.

This went on for 10 minutes, while my dad and I were unplugging everything in the room, with no effect on the noise.  Noise was coming from my speakers under these circumstances:Speakers unplugged from cpu, cpu unplugged from wall, everything on my power strip unplugged, my powerstrip turned off.

Can someone explain this?
