not only jesus, the devil or god, but in a broader sense contact with divinity (whether good or bad) or some sort of religious experience.  i dont ctually know for sure but it seems slightly stereotypical.
if a person from another country saw jesus, and they didnt know who jesus was, would they call him allah?

Greetings Andy;
  I have lots of knowledge and work experience in the field of psychology and psychiatry, and am happy to offer a very brief reply to your excellent question which has many many depths and complexities.

  One might start with the fundimental question of what do you mean by the word "psychotic?" (..but lets leave that alone for today...OK?)

   You mentioned religious figures (Jesus, devil, god) that are "seen." Are they also "heard?" (People who have the disease of schizophrenia have audio hallucinations, but rarely visual ones!)

   When the religious figure is "seen," are there independant verifications of the observation?

   I would say that if the reported observation originates solely within the head of the observer, that any religious figure within the memory or imagination of the observer is possible. And yes, in the West, Jesus is more likely then Allah; and in Soudi Arabia, Allah is more likely than Jesus.

Many thanks for the replies.

MovieMike,

Im not to clear on the proper terms such as psycotic,but asume that would be the right term for say someone like my ex-wife.She was diagnosed as having a nervous breakdown 4 years ago.Without getting carryed away in to much detail,she claimed at the time when all was falling apart that she saw jesus face in my friends face,(everything was religiously based or a sign) Angels suspended in the air,a big demon running past the window,showing up at 4am barefoot after having returnd from the sea where she drowned our two cats and pet mouse because "they were evil".
As I recall she both heard and saw things.
My ex currently calims that all other religous belife systems are evil and wrong which is where I first got the idea to investigate people from other countrys who were in similar situations.

As for cofirmation,im always looking for it regardless to subject.

My question on this matter is multi-facetted.It mostly concerns that part of the brain that produces these experiences.Other examples could be drugs or o.b.es.Outside of reality as we can confirm is everything else just a bi-product of the brain which leads us to believe it as real or are there really different levels that exsist?
I see similaritys within altered states of conciouness when I examin them,example being the astral planes,where some people see good or bad entities.Could it not be possible that they are in fact traveling to the location or level that some deemed mentally ill are always at?

I could really elaborate on this but will leave it for now.

Any further opinions would be great.

Peace!

Hi Andy,
"Could it not be possible that they are in fact traveling to the location or level that some deemed mentally ill are always at? "

Funnily enough, this is EXACTLY what I have been pondering over the weekend. I've got a very limited knowledge of psychiatric disorders and their symptoms, but through
a) speaking with friends who are psychiatric nurses, and
b) reading about mental illnesses, described by both doctors and patients,

...I think that it is a possibility that the hallucinations caused by some types of madness are identical to the experiences of some people who can project astrally.
Before I go on, let me make it clear that I don't think that people who project are sending themselves down a road to insanity !!

I think the difference lies in the fact that those suffering illnesses have no control over what is happening to them, and are not aware of what is happening to them....conversely, someone who projects astrally IS aware and HAS control.

There is one major difference IMO : mentally ill people are fully concious/ awake when experiencing the symptoms; astral projectors are physically "unconcious".

Of course, this is all speculation...

I'll Name You The Flame That Cries

Grendel

This leads to a common question of mine... If somebody is already having a problem (Be it psychosis, depression, you name it), do they still have that problem while they are projecting?  Or are they free of it?  If it truly was OBE wouldn't they be "sane" while they were out of body?

amed_h

just wanted to correct something someone said..
"if a person from another country saw jesus, and they didnt know who jesus was, would they call him allah?"

it seems people are confused by the word Allah.. it is not a separate entity from that of the Christian God, but rather a translation of the same exact deity... the difference lies in language... so you can simply put it like this:

God == Yahewa == Allah
If people were to read the Koran in its English translation, it is very hard to differentiate it and the Bible at first glance.  It sounds and looks the same.

Jesus, on the other hand, is considered a starchild/ascended master like Buddha, Quan Yin, and Muhammed.

Another analogy is this:
Jesus:God::Muhammed:Allah

As Amed said, Allah is probably derived from the Hebrew Elohim as a term for God. A lot of Muslims mistake Jesus as a seperate Christian God. As Islam teaches that there is only one God; Allah, Christians are mistaken if they believe that Jesus was a seperate God (son of). However, this is a misconception and is due to the fact that Muslims do not properly understand the concept of the Trinity (three persons in one- or three different ways God comes to us). If there is only one God, then the name you put to that entity is not tremendously relevant.

I was wondering if anyone hear has knowledge pertaining to psychology or pyschiatric issues.

My question is this,

A person under a stste of psychosis often thinks theyve seen Jesus,the devil or god.
Now this is in N.America.My question is if a person in say in Sudi Arabia has a psychotic episode does that person see Allah or Buddha if in Thialand?

Any feed back greatly appreciated.

Peace!
