Anyone else here love them? I think much of their work ties into what we do... just a thought....

Yes, I like Tool a lot. They throw out some metaphysical concepts, stuff to make you think. I like music that's smart. But their concerts are overpriced...

Rodentmouse7

the end of the parabola video always send shivers up my spine, the kundalini awakening.
if god dies, were all f*cked.

Tool is amazing.  I think they're the most genious band so far.  I'm going to see them in concern in May.

I love the constant theme of acesension in all of their work. My personal favorite songs by them are Wings for Marie parts one and two... that image of Marie standing at the gates of heaven demanding that  God himself present her with her wings is so epic... but it can be broken down into such a deeper image... And I love all of Tool's music videos.

I love Tool. Happened to see them live for the first time two nights ago.  :-)

I'd say it was well worth the price.

I want to be you two nights ago, lol... I really need to see them live, they seem like a band that after it was all over I would probably leave being an enlighened being, lol....

I used to listen to them constantly. Not anymore. I guess I associate them with a very painful and unhealthy time in my life. It's weird because as soon as doctors figured out what was wrong with me and I got better, I didn't want to listen to them anymore...like the improvement in my health and physiology changed my perception of the music. One song I will still listen to and like a lot is The Patient. The rest is just too dark for my tastes now.

I just started listening to them, but before this i always would hear them on the radio.
i think there music is good i really like them :-D

xblimeyx

i like them alot, one of my favourite bands.. especially Lateralus, wich is IMO one of the best albums ever, when taken as a whole.....

10000 days...well kinda i expected a better album from them, but its still good music...

cavernstoy

Ya, I agree with xblimeyx.  10,000 days is very good (wings for a marie 1 and 2 are genious), but is also very disapointing.  Lateralus on the other hand never stops surprising me.

Wings is one of my favorite songs, and I'm learning to play Lateralus (the song) on my guitar. They are a huge infleunce on my guitar work... Their individual songs are all amzing, but when you begin to see the progression of story and underlying theme in their work, it becomes profoundly altering, at least for me. Lateralus is one of their best, if not the best work they've ever done...

For me, Undertow is their best album, followed by Ænima. I was pretty dissapointed with Lateralus. It didn't have those nice beginning, middle, & end structures that are on the other albums - they were fairly short songs for Tool. I thought they made a great comeback with 10,000 days though. Nicely structured.

Jelal67

Lateralus is not as structured as the other albums, and you don't neccesarily get the complete feel as with Undertow or AEnima, but the numerology is amazing in it, not to mention some of the most classic songs ever done by Tool are on it, (ie. Schism, The Patient, Parabol). From a holisitic view, I think I'd be inclined to agree, but taken from each individual song, it's still a personal favorite

I've read a lot about Tool over the years here at the Pulse, but never actually heard anything by them.

Are there any free "snippets" or downloads that I can hear, before I purchase?

I bought Sphongle on the strength of recommendations here, and love them, but when I went to the local music store, Tool were under the "heavy" section, and I really don't like heavy metal music.  However, I do like "hard" music, such as Front 242, but I'm not sure where Tool fit in.

Any ideas?

Here's a link for "Sober" - their first video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hglVqACd1C8

The claymation is done by a member of the band, who also did claymation for "The Nightmare Before Christmas" and several other movies and music videos.

I also like Tool because they avoid putting their faces in their marketing and album covers and videos. They let the music speak for itself. And Maynard sings from his diaphram like a singer should - he has a great voice.

I just saw tool in concert last night.  They performed very well.  Lateralus, wings for a marie, and schism sounded really AMAZING!!! To bad they didn't play disposition, reflection, or the patient.

Also, the songs from 10,000 days sound suprisingly good when they actually perform them in concern.

If you get a chance to see them, DO IT!

Anyone know any Southern California dates? We want to see them for my friends birthday.

One of my favourite bands. And I am pretty critical about music. They have shown great progression between every album, altough I don't think that 10,000 days is their greatest album. However, it is a very good record, especially when listened with good earphones :)

I'd rank (if asked) Aenema and Lateralus very high. Undertow very much kicks butt too :)
Awesome to listen to these and play along with guitar.
Never make any mistaeks.

Jelal67

Their guitarist is a master at creating beautiful musical landscapes with very little. Many players these days are so focuse on shredding somewhere between insane and likely-to-induce combustion, yet his guitar work is fairly simple. I love playing along with their stuff and they are such a huge infleunce on my guitar work... love it... I love the constant theme of unification and the two becoming one with in their work.

Lateralus is a complete mind bonk.  I believe it to rival Dark Side of the Moon.  I'll be seeing them in a few weeks here in S.C. Should be a cool show, small venue.
