Hard to quantify. But when something is presented in an objective without claiming absolute knowledge or truth chances are the post is good.
Also when responding to someone else's post in a way that doesn't attempt to take away the validity of the idea form the originators POV chances are... etc.

Tolerance, thoughtfulness, constructive criticism.

There seems to be 3 main kinds of posts that seem to do really well.

The first being ones like this were we as a whole are trying to reach some kind on conclusion about things in general.  They often allow for well thought responces which allow for people to express thier opinions with little worry about arguments.

Then there are the plain silly ones or ones started for the sake of arguing a point.  Many like these posts because it becomes more of an expression of self than opinion.  Often they force you to look at what you really believe and why.

The last one that seems to do really well are the ones that either highly informative or experience related.  These ones allow us to share our experiences and thoughts on them.  These for the most part turn out to be highly informative because each experience is different from person to person.  The ones that seem to do better in this catagory are the ones that aloow for more discussion than story telling.

That's what I think any way.  As for my personal preferance I like to the ones that fall into catagory two listed above.  The ones that force you to defend your beliefs.  I have changed some of my beliefs because I could not defend the "why I believed it" part.

I like reading posts, even if I don't respond to them. They are a good way to learn about ourselves. Knowing why we like certain (types of) posts more than others can help us to figure out who we are so we can define ourselves a little more. I love a useful post too, but I love an imaginitive post (or one that sparks and inspires my imagination) even more. We like certain posts according to the kind of person we are. But we do overlap in certain areas. I think most people on this forum can find a common ground for everyone.

Well, these are my thoughts. I must get sleep nowrhghmm.....zzzzzzzzzzzz.....*snore*.........

We spent some time talking about the quality of the posts here. We even seem to have reached some conclusions on what counts as low quality posting and on why it happens. Now that this has been done, the question comes to mind "What is it about a good, high quality post that distinguishes it from all the rest?" Any thoughts on this side of the coin?
