Egg formed out of some chemicals, mutated, chicken hatched and tada! That's the most logical thing i can think of. Or maybe one was grown/created somehow by a race seperate to its own.

If you go by Darwinism I would have to say the egg. the chicken was a result of a genitic mutation that was laid by another speices.

But eggs are good[:P]

The egg came first. It's not as complicated as you might think.

No matter where you would want to say the older species of 'chicken' finally evolved into the modern-day chicken, the first real modern day chicken of course came from an egg, and that egg would be the first chicken egg and preceed the chicken itself obviously.

The gray area comes in when you want have to decide where the older species no longer exists and a new species has arrived. One theory on evolution holds that evolution is nothing but gradual change over time as the most beneficial traits of an animal are passed to its offspring and eventually all the traits will add up to a make a major difference on that animal and may cause it to break off into a different species. Another theory holds that all evolution is is a bunch of random mutations that just turn out to work well and they stick. I think I buy the first one more, especially since a lot of mutants can't even breed with other animals.

Either way, the first modern chicken started off as an egg that was laid by an animal that would belong to the previous species, and therefore not be the chicken as we know it. If you go back far enough, I'm sure the whole chicken family came from some totally different animal that laid eggs, and that animal was by no means any type of chicken. The first chicken would have to be born from an egg, no matter what.

Egg.

-THE CHICKEN OR THE EGG-
A chicken and an egg are lying in bed.
The chicken is smoking a cigarette with a satisfied smile on its face.
The egg is frowning and looking a bit ticked off.
The egg mutters to no one in particular,

"Well, I guess we finally answered THAT question!"

Both,

The chicken is stuck in the egg and cannot get out?...teehee. Maybe the egg (the mind) created the chicken as the means of reflection. The mind seeing itself from the inside out?

Birds evolved from reptiles so the first chicken came from a reptiles egg ... or pretty much what ASunnieSpirit said.

I never heard of that. That makes many sense to me.

Lets hear your thoughts on this never-ending debate!

I think the chicken came first. It just magically appeared.  If it were an egg, it wont survive with out its mothers warmth.
