Astral Projection techniques are in comparison like taking a shower
Everyone does it and everyone has their OWN way of getting the job done. (some more effecient than others)~smells~

But speaking of showers some people Sing while they bathe to pass the time in this i go back to the Mantra. Very effective methods for relaxtion and concetration of the mind involve Mantras, and mantras differ uniquely from person to person so with that i ask you What is your favorite thing to say? Maybe its not some actual word or more of a thought? an image?

i usually like to keep a hum or hold a note in my head or some sounds i love, i try to keep them consistent. other times i like to say a simple prayer and repeat it or change it up a little

this topic should help out beginners in finding their own favorite thing to focus on while trying to project. Share and take in  :-D

Lionheart

When I first began, I just used a simple stretched out "OHHHHHHHHHHHHHMMMMMMMMMMMM".

But then I heard Tom Campbell's mantra "Ah-lum-bah-de-dum/Ah-lum-bar-de-dum" and have stuck with that since.  :-)

Basically any nonsensical uttering will do.

I use a number of visuals, all of them action based, usually sports related, like shooting a Basketball, throwing/catching a Frisbee, playing ping pong, etc.

Once in awhile just enjoying a simple current in a river is a good one as well. But my favorite is just viewing a relaxing ocean/beach scene until I am there!

Bedeekin

My name when I first started.

over the years it's changed from imagining a song.. counting sheep... imagining a runaway conversation... always sound based. Weird considering I have a photographic memory.

Many people like to say positive affirmations as mantras.

Lionheart referenced Tom C. and makes a great point. Tom C recommends using non nonsensical sounds or words so that you are not having to think critically about what you are saying. However, if you say something often enough, you won't have to think about it. It will just come out.

I don't know if Beedeekin is referring to playing out an actual conversation in his head but that is one of my earliest techniques that worked great for me.

I based it off a real conversation that went the wrong way completely. So, I imagined it how I wanted it to go and before I knew it, I was "out". I skipped all the "signposts" such as the vibrations or buzzing noises when I did this because the conversation was intense for me and I would become very engrossed.

Using a conversation is not a technique that is mentioned often (if ever) but it just goes to show that there are so many different ways to get the job done and you need to read about them in a book. Just understand that at their core, every method is trying to accomplish the same goal- remove your focus from the physical while staying mentally awake. :-)
It ain't what you don't know that gets you into trouble. It's what you know for sure that just ain't so.

This thread reminds me of a set target of mine for AP (I have so many on my list!) which are not 'ticked off' yet. I had this quite a while ago already, but then forgotten about it.

I wanted to ask my HS (which I already have 'talked to' in the Void state before, it's a female voice) to tell me (or sing to my like a lullaby to a baby  ) my "personal" mantra. That which works best for me for healing, getting into trance or meditation, or even to achieve APs.

I believe it is at least possible that we all have personal sound sequences with which we resonate best on an individual basis, it's just a hunch of course.

I will renew this goal now and try to contact my HS and see what I get.
