"Only those who have dared to let go can dare to reenter." - Meister Eckhart

LA FORET MAUVE

that's impossible to pick a favorite music...so here is my list:

GOA (and various trance and techno...from Jeff Mills to Hallucinogen)

Pink Floyd (especially "the piper at the gates of dawn" and of course "the dark side of the moon")

traditionnal music from north India and especially Sitar...that i used to play [:P]

traditionnal music from Indonesia, Gamelan...impossible to describe, it is so wonderful...i especially like the javanese style, so lunar and majestuous...

traditionnal music from France for bagpipes and Hurdy-Gurdy and in general medieval music (from the middle age)

all kinds of very weirds and stranges music...from whales songs to Tangerine dream...ha, to not forgot Rajhastan's flutes

did i said that i love portative organ (orgue de Barbarie) too ?[|)]

Flummox

I listen to a lot. It´s hard to narrow it down to a few. But Led Zeppelin are probably my favourites.

I play guitar.

Flummox.

Linkin Park.  The one and ONLY greatest band of all time.

If you have all the "real" tracks from all 4 albums, you would have 45 total tracks.  (12 - Hybrid Theory, 15 - Reanimation, 12 - Meteora, 6 - Hybrid Theory EP)

So 45 real tracks eh?  And how many Linkin Park songs do I have? OHH.... I have SIXTY FIVE.  65.  20 songs that are not ON albums, I have them.

Some of these 20 are live versions of songs, some underground songs.  Some are remixes off of old songs.  ESAUL is a remix of Place For My Head.

Not only do I have these 65 songs, I have 10 videos.  2 are live, 8 are the authentic video.  The only video I'm missing is NUMB, as it has not come out in America yet....  Grr.

The videos are - Papercut, One Step Closer, Crawling, In the End, Pts.Of.AthRty, Frgt/10, Somewhere I Belong, Faint, Faint (live), and Numb (live).

See how much I love this band?!?!?!?!  LOOK in my Lyrics topic for the lyrics to the best of the best from Linkin Park.

CLASSIC ROCK ROCKS!!!!

All of Pink Floyd up to The Final Cut. The rest is OK but not in the same league.

Jethro Tull, Genesis, Yes, Alan Parson's Project, the whole progressive rock.

Stuff from the 70's and 80's. Yeah I know I'm old. Hell, I even like ABBA.

Clasical music, Jazz, Blues, and softer stuff only when I'm in the mood for it.

Avalon

Almost anything but rap and country.  Starting to enjoy Celtic music a bit.  Verrrra[:)] beautiful and relaxing it is.

Tangerine Dream too? That group it´s very nice. I like that kind of weird musics too. I must try the ones that you have refered, particulary that Gamelan. Maybe you like Ravishankar. You must try it.
I love you!

Forgotten Flame 13

Weird Al!
I didn't go to his concert tonight though. *sniff* *sniff* [:(]

curiousgirl

i love all kinds of music.... i can enjoy anything from just about any genre, but there are certain genres that i'm pretty ignorant about, mainly country & rap.  hhmmm... some of my all time faves are:  my bloody valentine, slowdive, cocteau twins, adorable, chapterhouse, the cranes, curve, stereolab, lush, laika, depeche mode, pet shop boys, (clan of) xymox, (*pant pant*), sade, bjork, nine inch nails, pink floyd, garbage, xmal deutschland, keiko matsui, the beatles, the doors, etc, etc... i could go on for quite a while.  music is very important in my life... couldn't live without it!!! [:D]

Tenacious

I like Phish the best.  Can't find a better jam band today :)  They sing a song about AP, or drugs... one of the two [;)]

It's easier to say what I don't like rather than list all that I do like [:D] I don't like country music. There are a couple cross-over hits that aren't bad, but overall I don't care for it.

My all time tied-for-favorite bands are Type-O-Negative and Tool. After that, Disturbed, Coal Chamber, Static X, AC/DC, Pink Floyd, Jimmy Hendrix, etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc.... whoop, almost forgot Enigma, Enya, etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc....

LA FORET MAUVE & Kazbadan,
Tangerine Dream!!!![:D][:D][:D]
I was beginning to wonder if anyone else has ever listened to them![:D]
At one time or another I've owned most of what they've released, right back to their early 70's stuff.

Other than that my music likes are all over the place -
Electronic, ambient & chill-out & some techno / trip-hop: TanDream & Edgar Frose solo stuff, Enigma, Enya, Rick Wakemen, Mike Oldfield, Balligomingo, Massive Attack, Goldfrapp, Depeche Mode, Leftfield, Sheila Chandra, Single Gun Theory, Dead Can Dance (just barely fit in this category)Nine Inch Nails,

Guitar: Tommy Emmanuel, Van-Halen, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Jeff Beck

80's, New Romantics: Duran Duran, Wang Chung, ABC, Visage, Ultravox, Human League, Pseudo Echo, Fashion

Mainstram & others: Jethro Tull (BIG fan of them), Pink Floyd, Peter Gabriel,  New Order, Yes, Genesis, Phil Collins, Dire Straights, Fleetwood Mac, David Bowie, Brian Ferry, Afro-Celt Sound System

With a smattering of Gregorian chants, Taliesin Singers, Loreena McKennit, and other good vocalists (esp female).

And the list goes on.....
Music has always been a very BIG part of my life.

James.

curiousgirl

ooo, yes, i like much of what i've heard of tangerine dream... i especially love the firestarter soundtrack (the song "crystal voice" is sooo beautiful)!  they've got so many albums, though, that i really don't know what to listen to.  what is/are their best album?  i'd like to be able to go straight to the good stuff, instead of buying every single album or something... don't have that much money!  [;)]

Tao

Rock, New Age, Classical, --- if i stay and think better i like all kinds of genres - the song matters not the genre imao :)

So at the rock section i like: Disturbed - i was really happy to see on this forum another person that listens Disturbed - great music... I like Linkin Park too - but i`m not their biggest fan - i liked Hybrid Theory the most - the second album was really stupid !! and the last album is cool but Hybrid THeory was much more better !!! I also like Pink Floyd alot - i have all their albums also... System of a Down have some cool songs, but they are not really a good band.. I would also put here Adema, Evanescence, Rammstein ( DU !!! DUU HAAAST) :)

New Age: Enya (hehe... who doesn`t likes it??), Enigma, Era and Clannad (celtic music) whoo hoo :) (nay [;)])

Classic music: Mozart and Bach (Goldberg Variations - heavens music !!!)

Other cool songs: One-T :) - really cool... Scooter (old songs - the new ones are not that good) Moby (some of them) and i would say ONE-T and Cool-T again :)

"Music's the odyssey
It's here for you, for me
Just listen and find the magic key"

My #1 passion is Dance music, especially Eurodance of the mid 1990s. Not too keen on current stuff (past 2 or 3 years). I love house (classic house, deep house, and hard house), and some breakbeat/drum-n-bass. I also love experimental electronica, electroclash, and stuff that's hard to classify like Amon Tobin.

Tied for #2 are jazz and r&b. I'm very picky on the r&b; it has to be the more soul-based kind, and not anything processed or too synthy. (To me, mixing synths and breakbeats with hip-hop is like mixing pear juice with tomato sauce; it just doesn't go together).

I also like avant-garde, disco, funk, reggae, 80's and 70's music, 60's music (especially "stoner" stuff), 30s/40s music and even a little bit of metal. ;)

Bands I like:

Dance: Culture Beat (everything they made through 1997), Cappella, Black Box, Fun Factory, Marina, E-Type, Maxx, Daft Punk, U96, On Air, Darkness (a side project of Fun Factory), Tania Evans, Rozalla, Haddaway, Corona, JK, Modjo, Ultra Nate', Armand Van Helden, Wamdue Project, Captain Hollywood Project, Smooth Touch, Basement Jaxx, Mephisto, Kylie Minogue

R&B/rap: Soul II Soul, Neneh Cherry, Monie Love, Zhane, Out of Eden, Victoria Wilson-James, Cooly's Hot Box, Groove Theory, Angela Johnson, Mary J Blige, Toshi Kubota, Tamia, Faith Evans, Anointed, Amel Larrieux, Heavy D, LL Cool J, SWV, Sade, Xscape ("Just Kickin' It"), ETW ("Stay Together"), Banderas

Jazz: Miles Davis, Spyro Gyra, Fourplay, Dave Koz, Torcuato Mariano, Kuh Ledesma, Swing Out Sister (love them!!!!!!!!), Ronny Jordan, Kim Waters, Rick Braun, Paul Hardcastle, Brian Culbertson, Richard Elliot, Duncan Millar, Nuspirit Helsinki, Diana Krall, Koop

Experimental/Avante-garde: Hrvatski, Yoko Ono, Flying Lizards, Bjork, and probably many more I can't think of at the moment

80s: Blue Mercedes, The Fixx, Mel & Kim, Baltimora, Gary Numan, Human League, Bonnie Tyler, Kim Carnes, Art of Noise, M, Men Without Hats, Devo, Madness, Spandeau Ballet, Thompson Twins, Pointer Sisters, Taco, and many more...

I could go on forever...you guys have probably never heard of most of these artists, but if you check them out, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. :-)

Hi Curiousgirl,

If you liked Tangerine Dream's Firestarter soundtrack, you'd like most of their 80's stuff. The best 'bang for your bucks' album for this era would be Dream Sequence, which is a 2 CD compilation of most of their music from this time.

They've changed members a number of times, but the band Tangerine Dream (primarily Edgar Frose) has been around for over three decades now! They started in 1970, and Edgar Frose and now his son Jerome are still putting out music under the TDI label

Enjoy,
James.

What about trance? Does anybody like it? You must try infected mushroom (this not food! i´m talking on a group), talamasca, growling mad scientist, astral projection, sun project([:)] love it), masada, etc, etc.

But if you have fast internet you can try the liveing radio:
http://www.shoutcast.com/waradio.phtml?genre=Techno

I love you!

Kodemaster and Kazbadan -

I'm SO with you on this!  Trance, Dance, Electronica, Techno, they all RULE.

Everybody on these forums has to hear SANDSTORM some time in their life...it's only the GREATEST SONG EVER!!!

Oh yea, and get some other stuff by "Darude"  He's a cool guy. He makes music go whee.  Darude made Sandstorm, aka the best song on Dance Dance Revolution (it's the best arcade game of all time)

My favorite cd/album or whatever else you want to call it is definitely Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon".

[:D] mee too !

Oh, for the Trance fans, did you ever listened to the french djs "bio tonic" ? It is rather new but very very "goa-ish" and incredible...a great recommendation ! I recommend Hallucinogen too (went to see him mixing in Tokyo and haaargl !)...

LA FORET MAUVE

oh, for Tangerine dream...my favorite is "rubicon"...the best in my opinion ! Very trippy, dreamy and dark...i always listen to it when i must draw something very very dark hehe...
I am not a big fan of Ravi Shankar, his play is not very representative of what is really sitar. I prefer Nikhil Banerjee, Shahid Parvez, Vilayat Khan or Monilal nag...

James S

I went into a full-on trance state once listning to Rubicon. Had some really good 'can' type Sennheiser headphones on blocking out everything else around me, laid back into a comfy bean bag and let those shifting sequences carry me away.

LA FORET MAUVE

i like the "70's sound" of this album...
I listened to it when i was mushrooming but it was too weird...so i shuted it off...but the music didn't stop playing all the night eventhough i get up many times to check if the stereo was off...yes this album is definively magic [;)]
