Title: A technique with a mirror
Post by: Adrian on October 04, 2002, 07:38:51
Greetings Tom!

There are many symbolic doors and portals to the Astral, including to the realms of the beings of the single elements - Gnomes, Salamanders, Undines and Sylyph's among others.

The method sounds very feasible to me.

With kind regards,

Adrian.

Adrian - how do these beings of the elements appear, archetypically?

It is subjective. People in Europe would perceive these beings probably different or very different to say the Native Americans, Orientals, Africans, Aborigines, and so on. The beings of the elements are the same in all cases, but they will perceived according to tradition and folklore.

For example, Britain and the USA, a Gnome of the Earth element might likely be seen with long beards, caps on their heads, long tight leggings, and be dressed in a tunic with a band around the waist - often carrying  a lantern.

Likewise, Undines of the Water element are seen over the sea as Mermaids, and inland as winged Faeries. Sylphs of the Air element are whispy beings, and Salamanders of the Fire element might be seen as small men about 30 centimetres high, wherever there is fire - e.g. in a hearth.

Undine poetry is very beautiful. Sailors of old would be ridiculed if they said they saw a mermaid, but in fact, while gazing over the waves, they might have experienced a temporary Astral vision. Same with Unicorns, Wood Nymphs, Satyrs and the like.

With kind regards,

Adrian.

Several years ago I read a technique in a book on runes. It looked interesting, but I did not have any luck with it. Maybe someone here can do it?

It is to sit in front of a mirror wearing a card on a string, like a pendant, with the rune drawn on the card. The idea is to look at the reflection of the rune in the mirror in an unfocused way. The tunnel-vision effect begins. the mirror becomes a sort of window to a place on the astral based on the rune which was chosen. The method was given as a way to better understand the individual runes. Protection was advised because the window can become a door. It is possible to combine this with astral projection to go through the window, and things can come out. The intent is to look in but not to go in.
