Hello All!

After hearing an interview with William Buhlman about Astral Projection I've become obsessed with the subject!
So I ordered three books on Astral Projection to read over break, Adventures Beyond the Body by William Buhlman, Ultimate Journey by Robert Monroe, and Astral Dynamics by Robert Bruce.

I am already on to the second book, Buhlmans, which gives you in the first chapter two ways of inducing a OBE:

Just before falling asleep, repeating the affirmation "Now I'm Out of Body" and visualizing in as much detail as possible a room in your house/residence. I used my parents living room because I'm home for winter break.

To my surprise this technique worked for me my first night! As I drifted into sleep I began to get this strange sensation that vibrations were taking over my body, then came the loud noise which Buhlamn calls "your body and mind in a jet engine." This noise startled the hell out of me, and I woke up before transitioning. I'm still very excited with my progress, and am training myself not to be startled the next run at it.

Last night I went at it round two. I repeated the affirmations and tried to visualize the living room for what seemed like hours, with no luck. I woke up in the morning 8 hours later disappointed and with no dream recollection of the night before :/.

Should I stick with this technique because it almost worked for me once before, or move to try something different? I do remember a strange sensation last night before I fell asleep, it wasn't a ringing in the ears but felt more like a pressure in the ear. I almost remember feeling like I was moving forward into my closed eye field of vision. Is this a normal sensation of the energy body separating?

Thanks in advance for any replys!

The technique you were using is very effective for many people, and it's given me lots of OBE's. There are many variations of this method, and they all involve mentally shifting your consciousness outside your body while concentrating on retaining your awareness as you fall asleep. The more real you can make this shift of awareness, the more effective the method will be. So try to use as many of your senses as possible, eg: if your visualise yourself as being outside, try to feel the texture of a wall or the grass etc. All these things increase the impact of the visualisation and make success more likely. Mentally affirming that you are out of body is also very important.
The fact that you reached the vibrational state, definately means that this method will work for you in my opinion. But you need to stick with it and try to remain calm. A brief taste of success when you are learning often causes you to become slightly overexcited the next time you make an attempt, and you may fail simply because you are trying to force things. I would advise you to stick with this method for a good period of time (weeks). Only make an attempt when you have already had four or five hours sleep (crucial) and try to remain relaxed and go with the flow.
If you experience vibrations, which then subside, use a reality check to find out if you have really projected or not.
You've already proven that this will work for you, so don't be tempted to change methods at this stage.

Good luck.

I agree with Nickspry, you need to work on a technique for a few weeks before deciding whether it is right for you. I think that you have been very lucky for it to work first time. I hear of people who try for months or even years and can not do this using various techniques. At first the chances are that new technique will not work for you some of the time and that you will fall asleep but dont be disheartened, the more that you work on it, the better you will become at it.

Work on the technique that you are using for a few weeks and if it is not working for you and you have put the effort in to trying to make it work, then move on to another technique. If you can get it to work well for you with practice then good, but I would still advise you to experiment with other techinques. Work at each technique for a few weeks each and you will soon find out which techniques are best for you or which parts of techniques are best for you.
