I agree.  While I haven't tried (or should I say haven't had success) with the rope method, I have problems using specific visualization as focus points.  I get so caught up in trying to "visualize" right that I get stuck on it.

Sensation is so much easier since its tangible rather then purely visual.  It helps me ground, and then by grounding so much I am able to expand.

(Though I can say I have yet to have a truly OBE, I do get to altered states of some sorts.)

thanks for sharing,
joya

joya, the whole point of the rope method is so that one doesnt need to visualise at all.

Really???  I thought the whole point was the visualize that you were climbing a rope up out of your body... and I guess some people use it to descend down as well.

If it isn't visualization, then what is it?

Rope was originally invented for blind people and proved to be more effective than most other techniques, for some peeps anyways.  The idea is that you are imagining a tactile stimulation rather than a visual one.  So rather than visualizing yourself going up up a rope and seeing the rope and seeing yourself fly up, you feel astral hands grabbing onto and astral rope with astral muscles tensing and pulling your astral body up and away.  It's all tactile sensation.  So feel your "hands" above your body pulling at an imaginary rope and pulling yourself up.

Another variation of the same technique if you have problems with your real muscles tensing when this happens, I believe, is to imagine a rope being tied to your body and to a helecopter and having it pull you up so to speak.

And so on.  And I think RBruce suggests what you are saying (the original poster).  Once you get the sensation that suggests that you are making progress, focus on that sensation and try to intensify/continue it and in that mindset..

tactile sensing, im guessing you just overhead about the rope technique and never actually read the document robert wrote about it. He wanted a way for people to be able to use something that would utilize your sense of feel, you should feel the rope in your hands and feel yourself going up it. Kind of like climbing a rope in the dark or with your eyes closed. In the scenario all you would be able to use is your sense of feeling. Same with the rope OBE tech.

Um... dude.  That was.... mildly stupid.  A) I own Astral Dynamics.  B)

tac·tile    ( P )  Pronunciation Key  (tktl, -tl)
adj.

3. Of, relating to, or proceeding from the sense of touch; tactual: a tactile reflex.

So... tell me bud.  What would tactile sensing be?  That's that, a sensing something using the sense of touch, or as you put it, the sense of feeling.  Note that I said it was originally designed for a blind person.  So, imagining a tactile sensation would be imagining you are feeling something, in this case, imagining you are feeling yourself climb a rope.

Next time, think before you flame me.

hey Blacksteam ~  I think Yerzak06 was talking to me, not you.

And, yah, Yerzak06, you're right...  though actually I DID read it, cause I do have the book, but either it was so long ago or I misunderstood, that I didn't realize it was tactile imagining.

So thanks Blackstream & Yerzak for explaining it.  And sorry gopherboy if I hyjacked your thread!

Um... hmm.  If that's the case, I apologize for going flame on without reading your post carefully enough.  It looked like you attacked my choice of words, but I guess I could have been wrong.  Again, if that's the case I apologize and it's me who needs to think more before flaming.

haha, good times bud [8D]

I would of edited it as soon as I found out my mistake, but I decided it would be best to leave it up.

Anyways, least everyone knows what the rope tech is (and the exact definition of tactile... [:(])

yes, everyone loves the rope technique when getting into trance and then astral projection. I like it too, so much that i decided to perfect it, and i have what i believe to be a better version of that technique. ill explain

the rope technique  illudes ur mind that a certain part of your body is descending. the sensation of that is a feeling or relaxation that just keeps on going. so...ive found that instead of using the rope, work with the sensation directly, its best to practice onthe face muscles. so you relax all your face muscles, and when you have done that keep relaxing ur face, like theres still muscle that is tense even though there isnt. eventually the relaxing feeling in that are of your body is actually that area going into a trance, it gets me there so much faster if i skip the rope and just go with the sensation. try it,
if you have ne questions please post, and let me know how it worked
