DAVE ELMAN'S RAPID TECHNIQUE
? for eye fatigue and relaxation

The basis of this technique is eye fatigue, which is produced very rapidly.  The old methods of achieving eye fatigue were accomplished by having the subject look upward at an object for several minutes.  As the eyes follow movements, they dart and jump from one spot to another.  With the Rapid Technique the eyes follow the motion of the hypnotist's hand in an even, steady path, tiring very quickly.  What used to take several minutes can now be achieved in seconds, the results being the same if not better.  Before the Rapid Technique, widespread use of medical hypnosis was limited, due to the length of time required to achieve eye fatigue.  The use of this method can reduce inductions by 25 to 30 minutes.  The Rapid Technique has opened many new opportunities for the use of hypnosis in all fields of medicine.

Have your subject assume a sitting or lying down position.  Hold your hand open, palm facing the subject at eye level, about three or four inches from his face.  Tell him to focus his attention on the bottom of your palm, keeping his head still, and to follow your hand only with his eyes.  Lift your hand slowly until your subject is straining to look up.  Say:  "Feel those muscles tugging ... pulling ... and straining."

Then slowly lower your hand, suggesting: "Now follow the hand down.  As you do, your eyes will automatically close."

When the hand passes the eyes, say, "Now close the eyes."

The subject would already be closing his eyes at that time, and the suggestion adds strength.  If the eyes don't close, suggests again.

"Now close the eyes.  Just let those eyes relax.  Let the muscles around      the eyes relax.  Relax them to a point where they won't open. Relax them.  Relax the muscles so they just won't work.  When you're sure they won't, test them and make sure they won't.  They are so relaxed".

You can do this for yourself by sitting or laying down and hold your thumb in a horizontal position and put it about 3 or 4 inchces from your eyes right in front.

Then slowly brind your thumb up without moveing your head and follow your thumb up just past your eyebrows.

Then hold your thumb there and in a few sceonds you will feel your eyes and eye muscles getting tired.  Dont allow your eyes to leave your thumb and hold it as long as you can when you feel you cant hold it any longer just close your eyes.

As you do this your eyes will feel more relax start to say to yourself in your mind "Feel those muscles tugging ... pulling ... and straining." and as you close them. Then say to yourself when your eyes close.

"Now close the eyes.  Just let those eyes relax.  Let the muscles around the eyes relax.  Relax them to a point where they won't open.  Relax them.  Relax the muscles so they just won't work.  When you're sure they won't, test them and make sure they won't.  They are so relaxed".

This will work in less then a minute.

Sincerely,
Frank (hypnotist)

This worked for me:

Try pushing energy (read NEW, available as free download from forums) across cheekbones, eyebrows, lower jaw, from upper lip up nose towards hairline, down ears & down nasal passage (pushing energy all the way till you feel it going down over shoulders, down side of body down to feet then up again). Push this energy backwards & forwards until you feel no more resistance.  Bingo! Face relaxed!

So, lots of people seem to have issues with relaxation when it comes to the face and eye area.  I know that I am not exempt from these difficuties.  Well, last night I got my mind to thinking and the information I've learned from my yoga class decided to intersect with my projection attempts and I realized why some of us might be having such difficulties.

Apparently, a lot of us have forgotten how to use the muscles in our faces and the muscles controlling our eyes.  We never stretch those muscles and as a result a lot of tension is allowed to build up there.  Just think about how much children use their faces.  They express their emotions fully and the face is used to its full capacity.  When we get older we tend to think that we are suppossed to be more reserved and we block our natural reactions.
Animals use their eyes extensively.  They will remain perfectly still, but their eyes will dart around looking at whatever moves.  With us, we tend to move our entire head and let the eyes remain still.  The muscles stifen up from lack of use.  They eyes become weak.  There is much yogic theory and philosophy about this, but I think you get the idea.

So, my recommendation to those of you who are having problems with relaxing the face and eyes, is that you should strrrreeeetch!  One good way to relax the face muscles is to open your mouth as wide as possible and at the same time open your eyes as wide as possible and really get those eyebrows to move upwards :)  Also, let your tongue hang down.

There are a couple of good exercises to relax your eyes.  One is to rub your palms together to create some heat.  Then lightly place your palms over your eyes with your eyes closed.  You do not want to apply too much pressure to your eyes.  Then breath in slowly through your nostrils and feel the heat going into your eyes.  Then exhale slowly through your mouth.  Take a couple more breaths in the same manner.

Another exercise is to stand up and start with the palming excercise.  Once you have taken a few breaths with your eyes covered, remove your palms and open you eyes.  Stare ahead for a little bit and then excrement your gaze upward towards the ceiling.  The trick is that you do not want to move your head.  Your head should remain pointing forward and you there shouldn't be any movement of the face muscles either.  You just want your eyes to move.  Look upward for a little while and try not to blink.  Then look downward, then to the right, then to the left.  With each direction gaze that way for a little while and try not to blink.  Then look forward.
Now you want to look down and to the right, then look up and to the left.  Again, with each direction gaze that way for a little while and try not to blink.  Then look forward.  Now, look down and to the left, and then up and to the right.  Then look forward.
When you are done with this, rotate your eyes in a clockwise motion for a few roations and then rotate them counter clockwise.
When you are done, close your eyes and place your hands over your eyes.   Breath in through the nostrils and out through the mouth for a couple of breaths.
