OK.. so when i lay down and attempt to project I try to focus my mind and relax every bit of it.  This part if very difficult for me.. it seems that when i try and relax and begin to feel my body beginning to pulse, i feel like my muscles get tense.. so i try and relax more but my muscles seem to always go back to being tense.. maybe its because I'm nervous or excited about the feelings and i lock up.

So in this process of trying to free my mind my body feels like its 150 degrees.. after a bit i just get frustrated and give up.. and I'm sweating.. why?  all I'm doing is laying down and my room isn't very warm so i don't get it.

I also have a problem with my eyes.. when i feel my body pulsing at the most intense moments my eyes are going nuts.. kind-of like I'm trying to close them too tight or something.  i feel them going back and forth.. like I'm reading something... and i feel like this is causes my mind to lose focus almost as if i want to open them

anyone have any of these problems or advice?

jalef

the heat could be energy related. when i do much energy work then i also start to sweat and it gets very hot. but this doesnt happen often any more so i think that it goes away with practice.

the thing with the eyes sounds like you are entering REM state. in this state you start to dream but normally you dont perceive your twitching eyes because you sleep. it is a good sign of progress if you can enter REM state without falling asleep.

just keep on practicing

I experience warmth when I'm in trance. When I'm approaching it my feet get warm, and when I'm returning from an intense experience my whole body is warm, so I'd say, go ahead, you're on the right track.

The eye thing is quite normal, try to put your eyes to sleep, stare just in one direction and simply forget you're staring.

It could be related to foods you're eating. There are many things I've now learned to stay away from because of the awful feelings it can produce during conscious relaxation.

what food cause that for you?
"What are you doing here, Nasrudin? his neighbor asks. "I'm looking for a key which I lost
in the wood?" Nasrudin replies. "Why don't you look for it in the wood?" says the neighbor,
wondering at Nasrudin's folly. "Because there is much more light here"

Once, I was reading some topics at these forums, and I felt my forehead heating up. I thought it was energy or something spiritual, so i didnt worry about it. Later, it turned out to be a fever. So my point is to be careful of what you perceive as energy.

Anything with surgar. No sodas. French fries - I can only eat a few. The better I eat, the easier it is to relax. Chocolate makes me cringe just looking at it now. If I try to meditate when I've had chocolate that day, the feelings I get are similar to a fork scraping a chalk board.

I'm not saying these things are bad for everyone. Just rules I've found that work for myself. I believe diet makes a big difference.

...however, it may have nothing to do with this at all. It's just a suggestion.

Heat sensations can occur before astral projection. Does the heat intensity come from the area of the back? Pulsing feelings, or vibrations, are also common. They occur in the transition phase of astral projection.

Between the transition phase of astral projection paralysis is common. So, there might be difficulty with moving parts of the body; and sometimes the astral counterparts of body parts will move on their own. E.g. the legs will bob up and down, the arms will move, the head might be in a different position, etc..

Relaxation of the brain and muscles is not very important. In any case, they relax naturally in the process of sleep. The key is to fall asleep consciously.

I got that all the time.  And then when I'd stop because I couldn't bear the heat, I'd freeze, lol.  It became quite annoying after a time.  I'm on hiatus for the moment though.  I've been too busy and stressed to do anything "relaxing", as it were.

Hey dRealM,

I've experienced the SAME EXACT things while going into meditation. I lay on my bed, relax every muscle in my body, focus on the blackness in front of me; Then my body begins to vibrate, my body "stiffens" up (no matter how hard I try to relax it), I feel immense heat, my heart starts to beat rapidly/uncontrollably, I may "try" to relax my body only to have it "stiffen up" again, then my body begins to feel floaty-ish, my eyes strain and move uncontrollably (like they're reading something), it's at that moment where if any sound occurs in my room, even the slightest sound, I violently snap out of that state... I also get these boosts of energy through my body, like waves of heat, (they feel really good); These waves actually cause my breathing to become VERY shallow, and only cause my heart to beat even more violently... After my heart gets too violent, and my eyes become tired from straining so hard, I tend to lose my focus and snap out of the state. On one occasion, however, I've seen these strange swirls of what looks like energy in the shape of small shrimp, while staring into the blackness in front of me... (I have yet to figure out what these are.)

I typically find that the sensations are at the most extreme when the physical body is unrelaxed. Sometimes there are spontaneous astral projection experiences, in which the body is unrelaxed (not completely prepared for sleep). Of course, the body relaxes naturally through sleep. The key is to learn to stay awake as the body goes to sleep. A mantra (a phrase that is said repeatedly) can help to do that.

Mantra FA-RA-ON

Mantra - A phrase that is ordinarily spoken prolonged to produce specific effects.

Pronunciation:

FA (as in far)

RA (as in far); the R is trilled

ON (as in stone)

1. Sit or lay down in a comfortable position to prepare for sleep.

2. Inhale. Upon exhaling [mentally] chant the phrase FA, prolonging it: FAAAAAAA

3. Again inhale. Upon exhaling [mentally] chant the phrase RRRAAAAA

4. Once more inhale. Upon exhaling [mentally] chant the phrase OOOOOONNNN

5. Say the mantra on and on continuously, for what feels like about an hour or two. The application of the mantra improves with practice. It also has the effect of stimulation lucid experiences in the night.

FAAAAAAA...
RRRRAAAAAA...
OOOOOONNNN...

FAAAAAAA...
RRRRAAAAAA...
OOOOOONNNN...

FAAAAAAA...
RRRRAAAAAA...
OOOOOONNNN...

Note: Astral projection can be learned quickly with the application of mantras, though they have to be said generally for a good interval of time. In truth, the only true way to learn  to astral projection is by astral projecting every day.

(pm me for a sound file of the mantra)
