The difference between Frank, and for example, Robert Bruce, seem to be quite substantial at first glance.
So why the different models of consciousness?

Consciousness is so deeply different and personal for everyone, I can understand the basis of 'why', but what about the mechanics?

Is it different belief constructs?

I've reached this point because I recognized a lot of what Robert Bruce says, regarding sensations and experiences - and yet, I never subscribed to what he says because it was so different from the usual. I still prefer to listen to Frank over him, but Robert definitely touched on something with his ideas on the energy body, I feel. Still - I find it hard to imagine awareness splitting, and the idea that I might not even notice I'm astrally projecting seems ludicrous!

How is one to know what is purely a belief construct and what can be taken more literally for one's personal development?

I believe it really has a lot to do with the base beliefs of the person and the approach they took to understanding what they experience.
For example, Robert Bruce goes as far as to call himself a Mystic... so right away, everything he talks about is going to be slanted towards that belief.
Meanwhile we have Frank Kepple, a self proclaimed "nothing special" kind of guy.  He approached projections in much the same manner as Robert Monroe did... which was very scientific and NON-mystical.

You can actually correlate the experiences of the two, even if they seem rather different... they're more similar than people might think.

Frank could tell Robert something, and Robert could probably fit it into his beliefs somehow in some way...
Meanwhile, the opposite could also be true.

So, in the end... it's all about your base beliefs + your approach for explaining these experiences = the terminology and explanations.

Experience.  When you receive a 'download' upon reentry or bilocation, you will realize that awareness-splitting is possible.
As to models of consciousness, that's all they are- models based on how a person thinks.  Mathematical people will tend to divide these things a certain way, visual people another, and tactile people another.
What's important is that concordances can be made, and experiences compared.

None of it should be belief-based-all should be perception based- however, I don't see how it can't be described any other way.

Read, practice, read some more, figure out where your beliefs are and what fits into your life and what is comfortable for you. In the end we will all be more aware of our consciousness.
