"A scan of his brain showed extensive damage. He denied heavy use of drugs or drink, but admitted to smoking two packs of cigarettes a day and drinking three pots of coffee."

I don't know anyone who ever had a habit like that.

And for the marijuana brain i would probably say that's the effect after 20+ years of using every single day.

QuoteWhen it comes to the effect of caffeine and alcohol, the good news is that once you stop taking them, the brain recovers (and the same may be true for other substances)

I don't think your lungs and kidneys recover...

Just so everyone's on the same page, this forum is for discussion and resources on learning to astral project the natural way, and while the topic of drugs comes up often (& that's OK to an extent), using them as a means for astral projection isn't what we're about.

(Those pictures & article show that caffeine, nicotine, and alcohol are worse than pot. I wonder what effect sugar has. Or stress. Or taking anti-depressants. Or skipping breakfast. Or living in air pollution.)

Just to be precise these are SPECT images not MR images..

They are likely using 99mTc-HMPAO (hexamethylpropylene amine oxime) and the images show how much 99mTc is uptaken by the brain in each area.. which is thought proportional to the amount of blood flow in each area..
so effectively we are looking at blood flow in areas of these brains..

Remember these are taken from INDIVIDUALS and there could be other reasons for decreased blood flow... that said we all know these substances effect the nervous systems etc and when used daily (even less regularly depending on the dose & half life of the substance & damage done at & over the time of use) they would be highly suspicious as a cause of the reduction..

I wonder how the author is screening these people to eliminate other factors that may be causing the reduction in blood flow?

Thanks for the link... I'd rather have blood flowing to all areas of my brain

I work in a clinical setting & you would be surprised what types of habits people get into

Accoring to the article it was -
"a 16-yearold boy who had used marijuana every day for two years."

I'm an exception to the rule.  Even though I've smoked pot,  I also practices exercises that are about increasing awareness (including unrestricted blood flow, etc.) to all parts of the body.  Actually it's like Robert Bruce's tactile imaging, I've just personalized it some I guess.
