I'll keep this simple... these were not dreams.

#1)

I was about 12 years old when this happened. I wake up in my bed and the room is completely dark like normal. Only I have this sensation of mortal terror. I look to the foot of my bed and a figure, like a very tall man, is standing at the foot of my bed, motionless and not making a sound. The figure's color was like what the inside of your eyelids look like when you close them and look at the sun. Just a reddish glowing figure.

I covered my head with the blankets and waited, never hearing a sound. I looked again after what seemed like hours and it was gone.

I'm 17. I take a nap on the top bunk. I "wake up" from that nap and I am surrounded by blackness. The same redness is present but it is hard to see. I can only feel it as a blind rage running through me. I hear the most demonic laugh as I lash violently out at it, and the 'sound' vibrates through the core of my being. I still fight it, though it seems to be toying with me rather than having any malicious intent. This lasts only a minute.

I wake up - on the lower bunk. I have never sleep walked that I know of. :?

I am now 26 and have not experienced anything like that sense. I have successfully projected many times sense and never had any trouble. I have no conclusions. What are your thoughts on this?  :?

Hi from a fellow newbie to the forum :)

I dont know about the second experience, but the 1st one sounds very familiar to me.

About 10 years ago (in my mid twenties) I was asleep in bed, and had one of those dreams where you think you have woken up...I was completely aware and believed I had woken up proper. I sat up in bed as I had an overwhelming feeling of being watched. I saw in the corner a dark shadowy figure of an old woman and I felt that mortal terror. It is honestly the most scared I have ever been in my life...it felt so evil. As I stared at her, paralysed by fear, she became clearer as my eyes adhusted to the dark and she was just standing there, staring right back at me. I tried to scream to my partner of the time to turn the light on but no sound would come out and I couldnt move. I then woke to the light being turned on, apparantly I had been punching my partner and screaming "turn the f'ing light on!". It still makes me shudder.

I did some research and at first put it down to sleep paralysis, but I was not paralysed physically in the real world as I was screaming and punching, I was paralysed in my dream. Sleep paralysis is similiar, but it is physical paralysys combined with a feeling of terror.

I then discovered something called the "Hag Phenomenen", where countless people have reported seeing a an old woman in similar circumstances, she is sometimes replaced by, or accompanied by an old man.

Here is an article on Sleep Paralysis, and another on the Hag Phenonemen.

You will see that both articles seem to be talking about the exact same thing, but whether either of them relate to your experience is up to you, as you dont mention being unable to move.

Well I was able to move, as I recall covering up my head with the blankets. Thank you for the information! :-)

It's called a false awakening, and your paralysis could be attributed to a random fear of yours. You should be stronger than your flimsy fears, overcome it, and move on. I've had a similar situation, i awoke in my bunk, i had a random feeling of fear, covered myself w/ my comforter, and then saw a dog leap out at me through the railing on the bunk. I then actually awoke, and very scared. I realized now that it's silly, but it was similar to this topic of AP.
