When I go to bed and try to not fall asleep, I start to hear a faint rushing/roaring/buzzing sound. This then slowly breaks down into many voices, like a lot of people talking at the same time. When I succeed to get deeper in the state, I can actually make out the individual words or even sentences. They are usually nonsence though.
Is this state any good for entering AP? Anything I should do/concentrate on? Or can this be used for anything cool?
I'm not quite experienced so I can't say if it's good for AP, but I have had the same thing. I would hear a bunch of nonsense in my head and most of the time I forget what was said a second later. Then sometimes I'll hear someone call my name. It's quite strange...then it feels really weird when they quiet down and everything goes dead silent.
I know exactly what you mean lol it's kinda wierd. I think it's like a radio and you have to tune into one voice or something but that's just a theory i made up :P

This is the hypnagogic state, and it shows you're deeper in trance. If you can keep your consciousness (it's really easy to fall asleep at this state) you can wait for the visuals and use them to phase or try an exit for a classic OBE. This shows you're very close. Practically there.
Yes I had this happen a few nights ago. I was on the verge of sleeping (I was very tired) and just at the last second ( I guess the point where you are on the brink of being a sleep) I don't really know why but I woke myself. Then I heard a single womans voice mumble something. Very strange.
Some say its clairvoyance but I personally think its just the brain in between states just confused I guess.
I agree that the brain causes it but the original source of the information itself may be from sources other than threedimensional perception, or in addition to it. Food for thought.
When I'm on my way out of my body, after the vibration stage, when I can actually feel myself 'lift out', I often hear voices and noises, often not so nice ones - likes screams or growls, which usually scare me back into my body! (although i think that is their intention!).
After doing an on-line course in astral projection I have come to believe that these noises are a mixture of energy buzzes and cracks, our own ego's, and also the odd astral entity now and then.
The best thing to do is just ignore them completely, don't let it have any effect on you or else you will probably end up being zoomed back into your body in a bit of a fright - ruining the whole experience (and, if you anything like me, not projecting for a while afterwards because it scared you! lol)
From what you described, I would say that it is probably a mixture of all the things you heard during the day & your ego's blabbing away. So nothing to worry about :-) It shows that you're very close to fully projecting into the astral.
