Hello,

Another topic I originally posted to Forumforastral.com, or rather a brief recapitulation of it.

The technique was originally developed as a part of larger body of magical/theurgic practice used by the magical organization Ordo Aurum Solis. OAS was contemporary to much more popular Golden Dawn, but unlike GD managed to avoid infighting and survived well into the late twentieth century.

The technique is split in two major parts - the first is the building of the astrosome (astral body), the second is the actual projection of astral substance and consciousness. The build-up of the astrosome is done via practice called Clavis Rei Primae and involves visualization of "astral light" - or etheric substance - entering the body of the practicioner through the top of the head. The light emanates from the "center" located above the crown of the head and goes down through the other "centers" (each visualized as a glowing orb of light) located in the brow, outside the throat, in the chest, in the genital area, in the feet. All of the centers are located "half inside the body, half outside", with the exception of the crown center - which is located above the head - and the throat center, which is located outside of the physical body entirely. Each of the centers corresponds to one of the Cabbalistic sephira - the "crown center" to Kether, the "chest center" to Tiphareth, the "genital center" to Yesod, and the feet center (located half above the ground level, half below) to Malkuth. The imaginary substance, once ran through these imaginary "centers", can be then circulated by being moved (by will or imagination) from feet to the top of the head and then going down - in two separate streams - around and outside his body, at his left and right side, and joining together at his feet to complete one round of circulation. The circulation is to be repeated five times.

Step two is - roughly - to lie down, most preferably on one's back, and then imagine the imaginary ("astral") substance leaving one's body through the solar plexus. The substance is then formed into the imaginary "twin", the consciousness of the practitioner is focused at either base of the throat or the center of the brow and from this point it is projected into the imaginary "twin". Once successful, one has now accomplished the projection of consciousness into the imaginary ("astral") space.

My experience:

I performed the build-up exercises for a while, and then, in the early morning, formed the twin (also called the "simulacrum") and projected my consciousness from the base of the throat into the twin. In a matter of moments I found myself in the altered state: I could see (albeit dimly) my bedroom, complete with the colors of the candles standing on my wardrobe. Obviously the surplus of the "etheric" substance must have been low, for I quickly found myself back in my body and in the normal consciousness. The next time I tried it I only had partial success - I was on the verge of separation, but didn't quite accomplish it.

Sharing the technique for everyone to try. Caveat: Denning and Phillips warn to always re-absorb the imaginary substance back through the solar plexus if the projection fails.
