Is letting go off of the desire to have OBEs the magic key to have OBEs?

Dear folks,

once in my own spiritual development I started to see that the mystery known as desire is actually what is distancing me from the things I wish to achieve.
Desiring something is like trying to grab some kind of bouncy candy ball, hanging by a rope from the ceiling that you reach out to with your arms but can only barely touch with your fingertips and as you're doing so, you cause it to flip away each time.
Likewise, desire creates a distance from that which one intends to reach.
This paradox is almost universal, why shouldn't it apply to the practice of astral projection?

Many people report success with AP but after a while they seem to lose it, being unable to reproduce the exits etc. It sounds only logical when considering that these could be cases where people started to form strong desires (=blockages!) to repeat that which they had managed to achieve.
I know similiar cases from my own experience, especially regarding meditation. I could have a wonderful experience one evening and be in agony the next because I would have attached myself to and desiring to repeat that which I had experienced the evening before.
The paradox here, as mentioned before is that desiring spiritual experiences is causing a distance between oneself and them and it is only the intention and the allowance to let it happen that can actually make it happen.

So - maybe if more people started to consider that if instead of desiring astral projection - they simply set the intention to do it and then allow it to happen - maybe then many more people would find themselves successful.
Desires are very subtle entities that noone is free from unless one consciously works towards identifying and eliminating them and when one does so, usually wonderful things begin to happen.

You know in my experience when I started I did not actively want to do any AP because I was fearful of encountering something I might be afraid of. I was just very curious about other realities and reading about other experiences kind of like watching a movie without being part of it.

I kept on reading and reading saying to myself that I would start pursuing an OOBE or AP when I would be ready but I guess I wasn't in control because I started experiencing things like being aware while my body slept and after about four months I had an OOBE and then more which only lasted a few seconds I think.

After that I knew I had found something great but I wasn't still a full blown astral projection seeker because I felt and I think I still feel some fear of the unknown. Now I try to go into phasings everyday, sometimes it happens most times don't but I am content that sooner or later it will take place.

I just feel and I may be completely wrong that those who are seeking to AP exclusively to escape their reality or just to say they did it without actually learning the big picture, might find it harder to actually AP. At least it is what I have perceived from forums.

I think we ought to create an operational definition of desire here.  Attachment to the urge for something is what you seem to be describing.

And I agree that that's what desire means.  I also agree that desire in this sense is a blockage.

But I think it should be clearly distinguished from magickal intent.  Magickal intent may seem like desire, but it's really about moving energy.  The same basic principle is used in energy development.  It's about recreating sensory and emotional energy.

Right - there is a difference between "will" and "desire". True intent is done through a person's strength of will. Not desires.

I think that the desire for repeat is is a big blockage, instead trying to repeat the past projections you should be inspired to achive new experiences.
That is the wonderful thing with spiritual developement, no repeat just new experiences.
