It's a great book! I have a special fondness for it, because I had my first 'conscious exit' OBE half way through reading it!
I often wake up in sleep paralysis, but this time inspired by his book I guess, I decided I could just get up out of my body... so I did! Nice one Bob! The two sequels 'Far Journeys' and 'Ultimate Journey' were not so good for me, but a lot of people seem to like them even better. They describe how he founded The Monroe institute and his research into hemi-synch.
It's been a while since I read it so I can't shed any light on your questions at the moment, but you made me want to read it again!
I think most everyone on this forum has read his books.

I did have an experience where I had a little boy crawl on me. I remained passive, to see what he would do. He was only young (about 2 years old) so I wasn't frightened of him. He just continued crawling and eventually crawled off me.
What was interesting was that I had read the book some months earlier, but had picked it up again and had read that particular section only a few days earlier. Hmmmm.
Staying passive was the key, in my opinion.

Journeys Out of the Body may very well have been the first book I read on OBE, and I think I read it back in the late 70's. It was an excellent read! When you finish it, you may want to read Monroe's other books Far Journeys and Ultimate Journey. There were changes made by Monroe in his approach, wherein he began writing about what he referred to as phasing into the astral. All in all, an excellent series of books!

Yes, thanks Tom, it's interesting. Cats seem very active astrally, I observed them to form associations. They are wonderful creatures.
I Just finished the book. I enjoyed it very much. I liked his instructions on how to have an oobe, good structure.
Concerning the question about things crawling on you, here is how I dealt with it, from my journal:
Thrusday, April 22, 2004
"I woke up buzzing. New I was in state for projection. Felt black, cloudy, furry beings clinging to my back, crawling all over me trying to keep me down (in my body?). Freaked me out for a second, scared the crap out of me. After about a 3 seconds of all-consuming fear, I gathered myself and attempted to gain control of my fears. Though I was scared at first, I quickly relaxed and welcomed their presence. I had the feeling they weren't too intelligent. I wrapped myself around them and caringly loved them. I think I was actually giving them what they desired. They seemed to melt into me. Maybe they went through me and left, I don't know. Maybe they were my own fears being absorbed by me. They're influence in keeping me down was gone.
I started to physically try to get out and felt resistance. I knew I was in the right state so I tried to move my etheric arm mentally, but it didn't work. So I tried to move my etheric arm physically and it worked! I still felt resistance. I let go of all resistive thought and floated out."
I have had only a couple other experiences with beings and this consuming fear thing, but I have always very quickly switched the feelings of fear to feelings of care and love towards the threat and this has ALWAYS neutralized any seemingly negative entity.
I believe in this method of projecting care and love to the point where if my life depended on it, I wouldn't project any emotion of aggressive, hate, etc. Negativity is not to be battled, it is to be illuminated. Illumination comes in the form of love and truth. If the truth is hard to find, love will do it. But the projection of love in times of threat and fear is an awesome challenge.
Woah ! This book is awesome ! I'm alittle more then half-way through.
It's really good, and has sparked some new interest in e, and dug up some old ones.
I can't wait to read the other books he wrote. I have a few questions, hope someone can shed some light..

Locale 2- Has anyone else been there ? Is this just his way of saying astral realms ?
How about the locale 3, which was quite solid and real ?
Has anyone here experienced like Mr. Monroe, where he like, melded and became the other him in locale 3 ?
Now I was reading last night about how the little boy-type thing was on his back. I guess it is just a parasite type creature.
what ways do others here remove such things, or avoid them ?
Also I was wondering about when he had three beings around him plling at him, when he was scared and praying and stuff. they were laughing at him praying.
then when he got in his body, his niece in the other room was having a night terror it sounded like...
what do you think these beings were ? what would you have done ? what do you think would have been possible ?
