I'm really curious!
I really can't lie on my back, a constant pressure in my lower spine inhibits me from going into deeper trance, so I usually turn myself to either side.
What about you?
First of all, it would be better to AP from seated position, rather than laying down. Mostly because it's hard to fall asleep from seated position(your head tips down or to side, waking you up if you do fall asleep), but as many others, I usually do AP from laying position, because I don't own a suitable armchair and even if I did, I'm too lazy to find the time for a serious try. Still, thought it worth mentioning for serious practitioners.
When laying down I AP from my back. This is because when I started training AP I couldn't fall asleep on my back, I always slept laying sideways. Therefore laying on my back kept me awake so I could give AP enought time for me to succeed. These days things are different and laying on my back is pretty much the only position I can fall asleep, I've trained AP so much that I've gotten too accustomed to this position. Still, I also do my AP tries on my back too. I find it difficult raising energy and manipulating energy body when laying on the side.. now more than ever I think I should get that armchair. Sleeping and APing from the same position is counterproductive.

Thanks for your input.
I too get into this state of activation of the astral body lying on my back, at that point I can't fall asleep. It's like a special, different function beside the function of sleep.
But when I'm in the state of action of my astral body, at the same time I seem to get locked into my physical body. I'm not sure whether this is due to lack of relaxation (lower spine as I mentioned), or over excitement, possibly even both.
The only chance for me, as I see it, currently is to enter the dream plane, activate my consciousness (lucidity) and going out of body from there. The dream plane appears to be a good consciousness-headquarters from where to access pretty much any dimension.
I hope this works out as I plan it.
always stomach or side for me - mostly stomach! you didn't have that one as an option. :|
On a recliner, which is also not an option.

Oh, well sorry.
I was initially just interested in how many lay on the side compared to how many lay on the back.
-added.
-chair added aswell.
I find I get waaaaaaay too comfortable on my side... and generally just fall asleep. LoL
However, I have a slight issue with doing it on my back too, cause I have to tilt my head back or to the side to prevent sleep apnea.
My throat tends to fall back on itself causing me to snore. This is very counterproductive to Projecting. LoL
So I sleep on my side to not disturb my gf while we sleep...
And I meditate on my back, with my head tilted back supported by a pillow...
Snoring sucks. >_<
I sleep on my side and AP on my back.
Xanth - I had the problem with the snoring when on my back and switched to one of those curved memory-foam pillows. It helps me keep my head tilted a little further back and easy on my neck. It solved about 85% of that problem for me.
Snoring has shocked me out of my trance before.

Hmmm...
Seems I might have to invest in one of those pillows then!
Thanks for the heads up! :)
i like laying on my back when i feel like astral traveling but i sleep on my side too...that is the real trick that does help when i feel like falling asleep and rolling over i hold back the feeling and roll over in my head side to side till my ab body rolls over and out i come i think its easier to roll out your body then to float upwards out .. or i like to take deep breathing techniques till i feel like im getting dizzy and floating out my body...
Back.
I do trance/energy work on my futon and sleep on my bed.
Lol someone voted option 7, brilliant :-D! It just has to be included in every single poll. :-)
That poll needs an "any position" option. Why does it have to be one or the other? I withold my vote in protest
Thanks for setting up this poll. The answers of people opened my eyes. When I go to sleep I usually try lying on back but then I get weird feelings, feel afraid and roll to my side and fall asleep. That way it seems that I prevent myself from going to trance. :-D
Gotta try this next time, lying on back won't hurt even if it feels like it. As a teenager I used to get vibrations when lying on my back and I wasn't scared of them, actually they felt fun. Never found myself from OBE though. The fear has developed to me since... dunno. It has to be overcome though.
hmm i actually thought it could maybe be benificial if my body falls asleep fast. i had no success with neither back or side yet. but i certainly fall asleep much faster on my side ^^
