I have a scheduled appointment with a hypnotherapist tomorrow.

I am going for help to quit a nasty habit.

I also was wondering if it would be possible to have a hypnotherapist give me something, like a way to trigger waking body paralysis, is that what it's called?

Anyway, the reason I am posting this here is because I want to see what regular OBE'rs think of this, using a hypnotherapist to gain access to the astral world. Is it cheating?

Also, how do you suggest I even make such a request to a hypnotherapist specializing in addictions and anxiety? Discuss, and I will keep ypu updated on my journey as it happens.

If you're intent of the appointment is to help yourself break your habit, you shouldn't forget your intention since it's for your benefit. But what's wrong with a bit of fun in the process? If you can learn from it, why not? No attempts at hypnosis have ever worked on me, though I have tried, just for the fun of it. Not that I don't believe in it, I do. It just doesn't seem to work on me.

A clinical hypnotherapist probably wouldnt be down for helping you astral project. Their main concern is your physical and mental health, and many dont even delve into that sort of thing.

Although that doesnt mean you could learn a thing or two. You could ask them to give you a trigger, so you can readily enter a relaxed state, they could give you affirmations to help you get into the desired state of mind. They also might help with repressed emotions or thoughts that would inhibit you from astral projecting.

Anyway, have fun and just learn. Ive been thinking about seeing one, but at 100 dollars per hour nows not the time.

i see. what kind of trigger would you suggest? Do you think a clinical hypnotherapist would have a problem with helping me reach physical paralysis?

You don't need a hypnotherapist to help you reach SP.

If you mention this to a professional therapist they would most likely not be that interested... like mindflood suggested. They are there to break your habit.

Just start taking short naps during the evening before you go to bed... this will start to trigger the right state of being for you.

While under hypnosis the hypno-therapist might say whenever you hear the word "x" (your trigger) you will return to this relaxed state. I wouldnt mention sleep paralysis.

I'm not sure it works like that. SP is an artefact of REM sleep. But you don't need SP to enter the right state for experiencing an OOBE.

Dully noted (seriously)

I will be going to the appointment shortly. I will  report my experience as it pertains to meditative states soon.
