Can anyone share some different ideas, suggestions and tips to help keep your mind awake while your body falls asleep? I have been trying to get out of body for over a year now and it's currently my understanding that basically, no matter what you do, in order to get out of body, you mind has to stay awake. Thanks!

Mate, Forget about your body being asleep. What I did is focus on breathing, Now technically that is not really a good idea but for me it sends my physical body into a deep relaxation state makes it numb. Once that happens I tend to go into a "phasing" state. By that I mean my consciousness would be in a NOR, Non-ordinary reality. I phase everytime I meditate, It is a natural process for me. Right, put it this way. Your consciousness is running away from your phsyical body, Your physical body is like a magnet so it is trying to bring you back. You see that your physical body is chasing after you, Which then looses your focus and bang, Your attention is back on your body. Now, when that happens, Take something and focus on it, it is recommended that you focus on your third eye. Keep focusing. You will be that focused that you won't have a clue about your physical body. Once that is done, You can then proceed to the next level. Just a little insight for you man.

In the experience's I have had, I do just what you are doing, end up falling asleep then enter consciousness again when vibrations kick in.  Then get out of body.  However, most of the time I end up going to sleep for like 5 hours and then wake up.  I usually drink a little caffeine and check the forums etc.  Then I repeat the process. This gets me out almost 90% of the time.   I think for a conscious oobe you have to keep your mind awake.  I have a friend who does this and he says the best time to do this is when you are not sleepy at all.  And it might require you not to lay in bed.  This is hard and I'm trying to do this as well.  But if you haven't tried yet, like I said, sleep like 4 hours then wake up.  Read the forums or whatnot, set your intentions, and if you are lucky you will go from dreaming to a oobe!  Good luck, hope this helps.

I try conscious projection, For me, I have not had one yet, But I do find it easy to reach and vibrational stage.

Okay, last night I had another OOBE --> AT.  I went to bed around 1am.  Prior to falling asleep I did my energy work.  I woke up to my alarm at 5am.  For diarrhea and giggles I tried a 30 minute guided Past Life Regression video off of youtube.  I got my body so relaxed and I was in and out of a nostalgic state.  I didn't get a past life vision, but after the 30 minutes I decided to go back to sleep.  And just like that I woke up to the noises, the vibrating sensation, then I just floated downward.  Down down down.  At one point I sped up to about the speed of an airplane.  It was great!  Many techniques and many ways.  My original plan was to have conscious projections.  However, this is what works for me now.  I read the Mastering Astral Projection in 90 days and the energy work has helped me immensely.  The only thing about the conscious projection is that I hard to not get disturbed with my 1 1/2 and 4 1/2 year old running around.  Just curious though, have you ever tried sleeping then waking up lillymoon?  I'm just curious.  This is REALLY effective for me.

I've been trying the early morning technique for weeks now. It has been the last successful time for me. At first I would just nose dive back into REM, so then I started staying up longer and reading. Then when I went back to bed I couldn't get my body to fall asleep again, so I just laid there awake. Last few days I've been going back to sleep on the carpet next to my bed, but this has been so uncomfortable I also just lay there awake, and then my butt cheeks fall asleep from the hard ground lol. The most successful time for me by far are mid-day naps and such. But everyone is different. I am interested in hearing more about this conscious exit projection technique. Can someone describe this in a little more detail for me?
It's hard to say that I'd rather stay awake when I'm asleep; because my dreams are bursting at the seams.

Here's another technique that works very good, amongst the tons of other ones that can be found.

I use it once in awhile and find it very helpful.
