What do you think happens to people with brain damage? Do their souls get brain damaged?

There's an excellent book (Jill Bolte Taylor's Stroke of Insight) by a neuroanatomist in which she described what she went through after suffering from a brain hemorrhage in a very detailed, chronological fashion.

She described how most of the left hemisphere (analytical, logical side) of her brain shut down after the hemorrhage and how she was cognizant but was unable to move, speak, understand words, or even tell the difference in depth between objects.  She also wasn't able to remember her family, friends, and her education.  So, to the point, she was all "there", but the manner with which she interfaced with the world was different.  After 8 years or so of diligent rehabilitative effort, she was able to make a full recovery thanks to the plasticity of her brain.  She basically had to relearn how to move, read, and write all over again like a child and was able to reestablish access to the part of the brain that stored the memories of her previous education.

She also recalled how she temporarily lost her ability to speak internally (inner chatter) as a result of losing her left hemisphere.
