My seemingly never ending road block

For the past year every time I sit to meditate or try to practice phasing (body relaxation being irrelevant,
I could probably do this standing up), I find that within the first 30-60 seconds of being totally focused
my consciousness drops down a level into a fairly-stable-not-so-vivid-vision...
The problem is, this happens so quickly it feels like I have little to no chance of keeping awareness.
I almost feel like I have the driving force to alter my state quickly but absolutely no staying power
as a result of how fast I've altered it.  :|
This makes phase attempts seem fruitless, 5-10min body relaxation, 2-3 min focusing and then someone
walks into my bedroom and knocks me out cold for the following 30min. (sometimes)

On the rare occasion, I've been able to sustain a strand of consciousness and watch the scene but it always
seems incredibly difficult and even tiring to do this and keep focus. When someone mentions staying
totally present and thoughtless for 20min I feel like I'm looking up at Mount Everest.

Hopefully this topic reads better than.. "HELP I CANT KEEP FOCUS IN MEDITATION! DERP!"
It seems a little more than that, since I've been at the same impasse for over a year now.
Has no one else experienced this when they were in their first couple of years of meditation
practice and/or phasing?

I hold any advice anyone can give in high value,
so thanks for your time,
Ellis

I know you might not understand why I'm saying this but, Congratulations, all your hard work and practice has paid off.

You no longer need the bells and whistles, you can just shift on a thought.

I can do this as well and was amazed when I first started seeing that i could just close my eyes in the shower and the disassociation with the physical was gone. I asked everyone that I could here in PMs what was happening. I even wrote Tom Campbell, he said that my hard work had paid off and that all we need to really do is ALLOW the shift to occur and don't be afraid of it.

What was happening was I was learning that it really is that easy.

I still use progressive relaxation and Binaural beats or my Laxman, because I enjoy them. But, I start seeing the NPR and feeling the shift almost immediately after I lie down now.

So, like I said, Congratulations!  :-)

Now all you need to do is relax into it. Trust it and follow your images or visions where ever they lead you. Stay with the first vision you get, ALLOW it to become a full blown scenario and join it! This will improve with even further practice.

Good Luck and Safe Travels!  :-)

You have the body asleep done. The mind awake part needs some work. It is tricky finding the balance and it can take a doh moment to realise the error.
Thinking within the physical is not good. You have to drop it completely and allow your images priority by keeping very still until they are similar to a giant TV screen. Ideally the sounds will be synchronized with the image present. This is where you react with the scene as Lionheart said above. All this assumes that this scenery is a natural part of your phasing experience.
If not explain how far you get where things are different from the above.
Its a natural occurrence and forcing the issue doesn't help.
There's far more where the eye can't see.
Close your eyes and open your mind.

Hi Ellis, I didn't understand that bit?

I went through a phase of falling asleep or losing awareness to quickly and still do sometimes, but ive found focusing on the in flow and out flow of breath at the top of my nostrils / between the brow is a great way to focus and if you pay attention to that area, its a great way to enter phasing ! at least it works for me.

Keep us informed of your progress  :-)

Thanks for the detailed responses guys, it has put the entire thing into perspective.
So really all I need to do is keep my mind awake and alert and head down the rabbit hole.
I always suspected the visions might be a means to project or simply deepen my meditative state,
however I never knew if the visions were a hindrance to ignore or a road sign to follow (since I wasn't
phasing for 20 minutes to get them).

Hi Majour Ka, metaphorically I was describing how sometimes the onset of the visions catches me completely
off guard and I "click out" or fall asleep for the rest of my phase session, very similar to how you described.

It seems If I don't stay focused for the first image/vision that appears during meditation/phasing then it becomes progressively
harder to maintain focus during that session. I'm making progress with these images now that I understand what's happening
a lot better though, so thanks all :)

Ahh ! I see ! (Said the blind man) now this will sound strange as I'm going to give you two things that are opposite to try but both work in their own way it just depends what the aim is.

When we want to move into a trance state, as we follow our breath with the intention of quiteing the mind we pass through several stages that after a while you will recognise. One of the best ways to know you are in the right path is when random thoughts appear. As they appear acknowledge and let go, just acknowledge and let go. Focus on the now more subtle feeling of your body and breath. Next you will start to move through a phase if intuition, that might appear as emotions, symbols clarity over a situation you have worried about, etc. Again acknowledge and let go, acknowledge and let go. Then we move into where we get mediumship or symbols given to us by spirit guides and helpers. Now a choice here can be again acknowledge and let go if we want to go deeper OR begin to follow the symbols and allow your helpers guide you into it as you watch the pictures visions and feelings unfold. BUT watch and follow without getting caught up in it. Takes practice but after a while you should easily recognise the stages.

Hope it helps, peace x

By the way a couple of ways of training focus is to imagine a glass of water and hold that image.

Also imagine you are controlling a gang of school children skipping through a maze singing nursery rhymes. When you want them to stop do so when you want them to start or turn left or right do so after a while you should gain complete control over their movment and singing. Have fun ! Lol

Another excellent technique is focusing on  a flame.

This is a great video to aide you with that. It's actually the first technique I ever used. The first time I used it, I felt the vibrations and AP sensations.  But I had to stop because the loud Astral sounds were scaring the Bejeebus out of me.  :-(

Lots more tips to consider.
I sadly couldn't keep the pesky school kids under control but the glass of water and candle worked great.
Continuing the meditation and phase sessions with moderate progress, If I manage to stay sharp and
focused when I hit the images/visions/scenes/ then the session becomes intensely relaxing for the
brief time I'm aware.

After watching a video Mart1in posted I decided to start setting an alarm at 8am. Seems If I begin meditating
immediately on waking up I can sense the vibrations about to start after 5-10 seconds. Unfortunately,
I keep getting excited due to how awake I feel as oppose to other experiences.
Must remember to "ALLOW" and "Surrender", as Lionheart often says. So damn hard though when you're seconds
from blasting out of you're body totally awake :-D

Thanks for the tips so far guys ;0
