Hi all!

I have some questions about physical position/activity :

1) Is lying down the position you would recommend by far, or does it depend entirely upon one's preferences (during an AP attempt I mean    :) ) ?
Is this possible to project in any (comfortable) position, like sitting upright in a chair and not leaning against the backrest, or sitting on a pillow, etc. ?

2) Related to question 1:

from section "Position Effects on Lucid Dreaming and OBE" in Astral Dynamics:
QuoteThe resting position of the physical body can have quite an effect on whether an OBE or lucid dream is achieved. I find that if I lie on my left side, I tend to project directly into a lucid dream.
Has anyone tried different positions and observed different corresponding effects ?

3) "mind awake / body asleep" is a basis to AP. But I read that we can focus on more than 1 area of consciousness simultaneously (like during F1/F2 overlays).  Do you think therefore that some conscious, basic and regular physical activity can be maintained while dwelling to another area of consciousness ?
For example, during a sound meditation based on vocalizing a regular sound pattern (like the continuous 'OM'), would it be possible to project and keep vocalizing ?
Anyone having such an experience of keeping some physical activity while projecting ?

The act of resisting a thing is the act of granting it life. The more you resist, the more you make it real - whatever it is you are resisting.

Hello Eagle of Light

1)  I would say it's entirely your preference, but lying down is probably the most popular as it's conducive to relaxation.

I believe people have projected sitting up - but I'm not one of them  :)

2)  I've had experiences (OBEs and lucid dreams) from probably every sleeping position you can think of.  Early on, I read that sleeping on your right (or was it left?  I can't remember now) would mean you couldn't have an OBE - ha ha, what tosh.  I find lying on my back the best - I tend to fall asleep more easily on my sides.

3) Whilst I haven't had any direct AP experience why keeping physically active, it is perfectly possible to focus your attention on something else whilst being active.  How many times have you driven a familiar journey and not been focused on driving?  In fact, you might have wondered to yourself what parts of the journey were like, because you have no recollection of them.

We all find nonsenses to believe in; it's part of being alive.

Hello Sarah

I'm replying only today because I was on vacation.

Thanks very much for replying to my questions.

hey Eagle,

1) i agree with sarah about positioning. There is nothing set in stone as to what position you have to be in to project, people are too different for it to be that way. on my back seems to be working the best right now, lying on my side is a little too comfy and i fall asleep pretty easily. something inbetween too comfy and too uncomfy is usually ideal, but ya never know, play with it!

2) I havnt really measured this but i think i get more WILDs and lucids on my back than on my side. Whether you get a WILD or a regular lucid dream probably has more to do with how you are mentally going about the process rather than the position of your body. On a scale of one to ten, ten being most important factor in the oobe process and one being least i would say the position of your body gets about a four.

3) Dont know if you can vocalize while oob. i dont see why we wouldnt be able to as people talk in their sleep all the time. It would be a pretty cool finding if someone were able to say some preplanned words while being measured in REM.
If you will it it is no dream.

Hello Michael_E

Thanks for your input

Yes, would be pretty cool. By saying this, you made me remember about the fact S. Laberge experimented with preplanned eyes movement in REM sleep. Lucid dreamers were proved to be capable of moving their eyes in particular ways so that to indicate the start of lucid dreaming.

I adhere to the idea that lucid dreaming is a projection within Focus 2. Therefore, this would be quite interesting indeed to see if preplanned eyes movements remains possible when the focus is different, like Focus 3 or Focus 4 ... For example, one would do a left-right movement within Focus 2, then roll the eyes on transitioning to Focus 3

Need some volunteers :P
