When practicing AP, is the position that you lie in important? Or does it really matter?

Some people have said that you should lie on your back with your arms by your sides, which I've been doing. However, is it possible to have an OBE while lying on your side? (which is the way I usually sleep.)

Skippy,

You can have an obe in any position, even sitting up in a chair, as I have!

However you also have to remember psychological conditioning. If sleeping on your side is your usual position for falling asleep then this is very likely to happen if you lie on your side and try to project. If you do not normally sleep on your back, then perhaps you should choose this position to project.

This means that when you lie on your back you are sending a message to yourself that you want to project. Once this becomes ingrained then it can lead to a higher rate of obes as the obe sequence can be triggered in your sleep if you happen to role over on your back during the night.

My positions keep changing.  First on my back then on my side, back again..etc.  I've only projected once from a reclined position.   I need to buy a lazyboy..lol

Thanks for the advice, guys.  :-) I think I'll keep practicing lying on my back, then, at least for now, especially if, as Doug says, I'll be telling myself that I want to project.

For me, it is easier to project on my back or side. But everyone is different.

Maybe I should try standing on my head.  :-)

Chose a position and stick with it. I think if you keep a position consistent your subconscious mind will begin to associate that postion with projection. This goes the same with meditation. Regularity and time of day help as well. Keep them consistent too if you can. It can be a real help.

I'm sticking with practicing lying on my back for now. The time varies slightly - I practice when I go to bed, but the time I go to bed can vary by an hour or two - but it's generally the same time.

I really want to achieve this. Can my desire to do it hinder me, though? I've heard people say that it's best not to be too impatient.

I have rarely OBE'd when lying on my back. I find it much easier to do it in my natural sleeping position (on the side). I guess it's because I'm not relaxed when on my back.

Well sorta. If you desire it chances are you'll be very happy and excited when it finally happens. If you let your emotions get out of control you'll loose it. It also means you may not go back to your body soon enough, fall asleep and forget the entire thing.

Impatience is a hindrance. It is also very common among newby projectors so it's entirely normal from my perspective. I'd say to a certain extent I am still impatient about things.

I had a very frustrating projection this morning. I woke up out of body down near my subwoofer under the computer desk. I soon became aware that I was out of my body and tried to rotate backwards so I was upright. I ended up throwing myself out of the top of my house. Then the loss of control sought of grabbed my subconscious. I ended up in a trance state and then back asleep. These sought of projection failures happen usually when I am excessively tired or not planning on projection in the first place. These were both the case this morning.

As long as you have admitted to yourself, and are aware that impatience is something you need to work on, it is no longer a problem. More an assignment. It's something you'll overcome in time.

As I said earlier, regularity will help. An hour or two hours doesn't matter. It can simply be in the morning or the afternoon/evening. It's like smokers. When they quit, they need something to fill the time. There is really no set time to have a cigarette, but the urge comes over them. This is a weak analogy but you probably get my drift.

I feel that the position is fundamental .When desiring an etheric projection from the male tan tien or Earth stone .Lying in a fetal pose on the side and bringing the steles into alignment will facilitate separation by inducing and enhancing vibes . Men can project easier lying on  the back or left side . Women can project best from lying on the right side or stomach . Sitting up in a chair the women may find leaning forward to expose the back is best whereas a man might do best to lean back into the chair fully .

To facilitate a mystic projection , the throne pose which is sitting up arms supported in an armchair , limbs uncrossed , palms up is best to bring energy down from the crown  . Alternatively a Thoth psoe is helpful leaning forward somewhat and placing the heels under the chair to bring energy up from the floor to the male kanda from the feet upwards .

People vary and other positions will of course work but these are opportune , imho .

Thanks for all the great advice, guys.  :-) I think I need to spend a bit more time practicing, as well. I spent about twenty minutes last night, which I don't think is really long enough. Since it's Saturday tomorrow, and I don't need to be up early, I hope to spend some more time practicing tonight.
