Eye-based meditation

The eyes for some reason seem to be much harder to relax when shut than when wide open for some reason. It's as if the brain wanted to go rapid-eye-movement and brainstorming as soon as you close them. By placing one's focus on the eyes while shut, he can detect and manually release tensions in the area. There is a good number of muscles around the eyeballs. For me usually, CEVs (closed eye visuals) will start to develop that otherwise wouldn't. I'd say the eyes make up 60% of the overall body comfort or lack of it.

With this type of meditation also comes a very pleasant certain hypnotic after-effect that may last a while.

I like to stretch my eyes out a lot before I begin my actual practice.  I'll close them tightly for a few second and repeat that a few times.  Then I'll circle them around circling to as far to the extremes as I can without becoming super uncomfortable.

From there, I'll begin my practice.  They'll still flutter a bit as I'm "trying" to keep them close.  Tiny is correct in that the muscles will still want to move a bit.

For myself though, I try not to focus directly on my eyes at all... there will come a point in my practice when they'll naturally relax, the eyelids will naturally become "heavy" and will stay down with absolutely no effort on my part.  This is when generally know I'm in Focus 10.  From here, it's not very long until I begin getting the visuals that Tiny talks about... which is Focus 12.   :)
