Title: Shallow breathing will keep your body awake
Post by: Tiny on December 29, 2010, 20:42:43
I thought it might help someone if i mentioned this.

Having troubles to go deep into relaxation or meditation?

Many people including myself have developed shallow breathing over time probably due to stress. Well it happens to be that a lack of oxygen will cause the brain to send out a stress signal that'll keep you awake and in agony all the time.

I have the problem that my autonomous nervous system won't automatically breath in as deep as is necessary for deep relaxation so I have to take the wheel in my own hands and breathe indeeper than it feels "natural" or even comfortable.

Take care

kind regards,

Paul

Shallow breathing is a big problem for most of the population, indeed.
As we grow older our breathing pattern shifts dramatically.  From long, even breaths, where we breath from our stomachs... and when we get older to short, uneven breaths, breathing from our chests.

I find that the times when I'm able to pop into a Focus 10 state REALLY FAST is when I've slowed my breath down and am actually mimicking my autonomous breathing pattern.  I highly suggest people learn what their autonomous breathing pattern is and imitate it as closely as possible.

If you have no means of recording yourself... and if you're able to, watch someone else sleep.  You'll be able to see the exact second they fall into their autonomic breathing.  Try mimicking theirs.  :)

It's been a curse to me for many years.

But since I have been breathing deeper (manually), i've been having visions and astral hearing again in meditations, it's great.

kind regards,

Paul

That's great to hear Paul.  :)
I'm glad you were able to re-connect with the astral again in such a manner.

Interesting, I never focus on my breathing: it seems to become very shallow and slow on its own, until I can no longer sense that I'm breathing at all, at which point I'm in Focus 10.

I'll try doing slow deep breaths on purpose today and report my results.
