So I'm really having a hard time with AP and meditation. Help?

Okay, this is my first post so I'd like to say hello  :-) I'm 17 years old and I began meditation for a while hoping I could achieve an OBE and because currently my life is pretty stressful I figured if anything quite time would be good for me.  While the meditation did help calm me, I began to be discouraged after a few weeks because I was not getting anywhere close to any sort of projection.

So school's started up again, so with it being my senior year I'm now balancing all my schoolwork, extra curricular things and all the things I have to do to apply to college.  So I'm pretty stressed.  I began meditation again but I'm just not finding near the same results I was a few months ago.  In an effort to begin to project, I bought the astral projection/creative free flow MP3 pack from UnexplainableStore.net (I think that was the website).  My problem now seems to be that I can be really relaxed and almost exit my body - but every time I get into this deep state I feel my legs and arms float up and out of my body, then my chest.  Everything's going well, right?  Wrong.  As soon as my entire bodies out but not my head, it seems like my head acts as an anchor and no matter how hard I "pull" I can't get it out, then I usually just fall back into my body.  What's going on?  Does anyone have any advice that they can give me?  It's not like I don't believe in AP, I've always had the thought that the mind and the body where two separate things and the mind could leave the body at will, even before I'd heard of AP.

Please help.  I'd really like to have an OBE, I've only ever had one and it was when I was very young but it was different than anything I've ever read of anyone having.  What was weird is that I was out of my body but time was actually stopped.  It only lasted a few seconds and I didn't really get to explore, but I remember it perfectly.  I'd like to have another experience like this for personal reasons and also because I'm really considering physics as a major and if somehow I could undoubtedly prove conscious thought has an effect on reality it would change how people think all over the world, more than likely for the better.

WOW....you are very ambitious :-D Make sure you stay focused on your school work. That having been said I have seen several posts that refer to getting stuck as you have mentioned. You need to make sure that you are totally relaxed and when this happens keep trying. Try doing a search for getting stuck, and don't get discouraged. It can be a slow process for some.

From the time I was young I've always had an interest in learning and always thought that ignorance was the only real sin one could ever commit.  My goal is to make an impact on this world not only when I'm here, but when I'm gone as well

I tried meditation without any of the bbeats, but I didn't really get that far.  I should probably note that I'm unclear on what type of "vibrations" some feel when they're leaving their own body.  Is it just a subtle thing, or is it like your physical self is really shaking?  I'm assuming it's more of an inner thing, as I've felt that, but I'm just not sure.

P.S. Has anyone who's good at AP ever been able to make something happen with time?  IE slow it down, reverse it, or stop it?  Just wondering if anyone has ever had an experience like mine.

phxsun

For me the vibrations have been quite interesting. They seem to me to be from within since my wife is a real light sleeper and anything else would wake her up.

Awakened_Mind

The main thing with all projection attempts is concentration. Everything new is frustrating, especially if you're a perfectionist. Just allocate some time out of your day that fits in with your schedule. If you keep up the reading from a wide variety of sources not just one, in addition with the advice of members on these forums, it's only a matter of time before you're flying to the moon.

Thanks, reading here has really helped a lot.  I tried something new last night when I was meditating, and it seemed to really push me forward but not give me an OBE.  I have faith in it though.  I'm not sure if anyone has done this, but it's sort of a visualization where I think about my room sitting from my desk until I get it crystallized in my mind.  I think think back to Einsteins theory of relativity and my personal theories on time and space and how everything is based on perspective, so I just will myself to be where I'm "seeing" from.  I really noticed myself being pulled out of my body to the right, which is exactly where my desk chair is.

P.S.  How do any of you talk to other people about AP?  I kind of brought the subject up with my girlfriend of two years today and she just wrote it off at the beginning (like I did, to be honest).  If I can project sometime soon, should I just go to where she is and watch her for a bit, then mention something about what she was wearing tomorrow?  I guess I want her to at least realize AP's existence, but I don't want to be a creeper.

Plus to be honest when I leave my body I have a lot of other things I want to do, not just fly around.  I'd really like to experience other dimensions and if I discover what afterlife really is, or if even it is relative.  I'd also really like to try to replicate the time pausing effect I had when I was much younger, and eventually try to move back in time...  But all these things have probably been done.  I just want to achieve them for myself.  Seeing stuff would be fun too though,  :-D.

Robert Bruce suggests that when you find yourself partially floating out of body but being stuck at some part, it means that this part on the physical side is not relaxed enough. As a consequence of this, the projected energy body is not generated in those areas.
According to him all parts of the physical body need to be properly relaxed so a bird-free energy duplicate can be created.

So how do I relax my head/neck?

massage/EFT/exercise

EFT?  Sorry...  I'm a bit of a "newb" and don't really know what that stands for  :?

Shea

EFT stands for "emotional freedom technique." It's like emotional acupressure/acupuncture.

There's a site for it: http://www.emofree.com

It's supposed to help with practically anything and everything - from helping to dissolve a fear of heights to improving your vision and even slaughtering a craving for chocolate!

I'm actually using this to dissolve my fear of the unknown so I can AP. :)

Ah okay, thank you for clarifying that  :-) I will definitely read the free text tomorrow, tonight I searched youtube and found what I thought was a credible source.  I did what he said and I do feel better  :-o I'm off to bed, hopefully I'll be able to get a bit closer to finally having an OBE.

One small question though, to those of you who make use of binural beats, do you find it more helpful if you just play them through headphones and then basically not focus on them (letting them just play in the background) or do you heavily focus on them?

P.S.  I'm really glad I found this website, I'm learning so much so quickly.  My whole summer I went from one thing to another trying to find out what I believed - now in just a few days I've realized what I thought was right the whole time is right, because it's right for me.  I've managed to be a spiritual person without being religious (nothing wrong with religion, it's just not me).  All of you are awesome  8-)

Shea

Ooh, I use binaurals. Sometimes I just let them play in the background and other times I focus on them. I haven't been able to AP with them yet (keep in mind I had my first OBE in April, and it lasted like, 7 seconds) but I don't know which is better for you. If you focus on them - and don't have issues with a wandering mind - it would probably work, but if you're like me, who tries to focus on them and ends up thinking about her day, you'd probably do better just lying there listening. Allow your thoughts to gently drift across your mind, but don't analyze each one.

By the way - I feel the same. I actually have two other forums I found and I'm so grateful that I have each of them to help me since my spiritual journey is starting out at my age. o_o It's difficult to work in school, homework, art projects for GHP, and spirituality all into one day, but I manage! :)

Hey you've had one more OBE than I've had  :-P Okay so I suppose I did have one, but that one was fear induced, and when I was very young.  (okay, so maybe only like 7 years ago, haha)

And I think I may start working on my meditation for the time being, then begin to focus more on AP later.  There are a lot of things I'd enjoy doing with AP, but meditation has improved my life so much - and I'm still near terrible at it

Shea

Interesting you say that because I'm working on meditation, too. I've been avoiding it for a long, long time, which probably explains why I'm not getting anywhere with psychic skills, spirit/angel communication, and so forth.
So I made meditation a nightly thing, which is handy because it clears the mind before AP attempts.

I get closer to AP every night, but my darn fear backs it away. (._.)

Dusty,

you might also want to try acupressure on yourself, it deals with the same concept of meridian energy points (hundreds from which you can choose) as EFT does but it's more intense. It kicks my back-pain all the time.
Research for points that deal with the energy flow of the head or are listed as treatments for headache etc.

Meditation is great. The keyword for proper meditation, i found, is "surrender".

And for meditation to really become an effective medicine, for me anything under 2 hours daily in DEEP meditation is a no-go.

I may have to try this.  Although I've really liked the tapping that I've been doing for the last few days.  It can be weird though, in public, when I get frustrated to have to find somewhere private that I can tap for a few minutes.

P.S.  I guess I'm having a hard time understanding "different" meditations.  I always hear about all these different things to do/focus on but I guess I need some big place to list a lot of them out that I can use as a reference.  All I seem to be able to do is just zone out for about 15 or 20 seconds (progress!) and think about "nothing" which is nice, but the energy stuff still has me confused.

Aah why not screw all those names and definitions and our your own ways and find what works best for ourselves?

I don't think of it so much as thinking about nothing, I think of really freezing into myself (lowers my brainwave) and enjoy the buzz, because no trance means no meditation.

See if you can get a hold of Robert Bruce's old Astral Dynamics, it's only 238 pages long filled with dense info, instructions and help and he just takes one through everything step by step including explaining how to trance/meditate properly. Towards the end he rewards the reader with fantastic descriptions of the astral world, it's just a fantastic book, Robert won't let the reader down, I love it.

Robert describes how when you're gathering experience with entering trance you can feel invasive thoughts like impulses and it becomes much easier because you can learn to just ignore this impulses because they need your stimulus in order to take control of you.

I'd like to but I don't even really know how to properly meditate.  I'm sure eventually I'll wander off on my own merry way, but because I'm starting I'd like to have a little "guide" if you will, so that I have a few leads to go off of. Then once I get better I can start...  Well...  Messing around.

And I'd love to get some books, but I don't think it's very likely because of my home life (don't ask).   :-(

Yes, thanks again!

Here is the link for all who want it

*message Tiny or I for link*

I read about 8-9 pages then skipped over to information on trances.  I'm sure I'll read the whole thing eventually, but I think just this little bit of information will help me a lot!  :-D

So how do I relax my head/neck?
That just comes with practice and time.

First, sit there and just "feel" the muscles in your head and face.  Feel how tight they generally are.
It takes time to actually REALIZE and FEEL how tense the muscles in your head and neck actually are.
I didn't realize this myself until just recently.

Once you're able to feel the tenseness you can begin to relax all the muscles.  It's a very slow process, but you'll slowly (VERY SLOWLY) start to feel the muscles relax from tense contracted state.

People generally try to relax everything, but they miss out entirely on their head and neck when these are the two biggest trouble spots.

I began to feel this last night.  Had THE BEST meditation I've had EVER.  I maintained focus 10 for almost 10-15 minutes, which was a big leap from my normal 4-5.

I also had a really weird thing happen.  When I got pretty deep in my trance I really felt as if I could "see" the room, even though my eyes were closed and it's very dark in my room (I'm in the basement with no windows).  I got a tiny scratch on my nose, and I decided that I wanted to figure out if I could actually "see" my hand when I scratched my nose.  Trying my best to maintain the trance, I reached up, scratched my nose, and returned my hand to my side, watching all of this with my eyes closed.  Very cool, at least for me  8-)

15 minutes without a single thoughtform? that's pretty good I'd say.

I think it's less about training oneself to meditate, I think it's about learning to simply let go which is great there is nothing better one can do to themselves imo.

Had a pretty cool chill last night, I decided to put on some Steve Roach (there is probably no music more trippy than this) and after 5 mins or so had my projected arms floating over my body and some third-eye imagery that didn't make much sense to me.

Great stuff, always.

My self-acupressure works like crazy for me already now after just 3 days or so, my back pain is lessening like it never did from physical therapy.
Might want to try this on yer head? Push hard tho and find the exact spot where it hurts, push up to 30 seconds at each point.
